NC Game Day XI: September 23! (Player Registration Now Open)

We're home, we had a blast, and we can't wait until the next time we can attend. :)

Thanks so much to Rel and Mrs. Rel for hosting on Friday night, Belen and Alenda for putting us up, and to Nakia, Rel, and all of the people we played with for awesome games.

"That's a spicy meat-a-ball!"

To Torm and the others -- thanks for being such an awesome group for my Firefly game! The sheer quantity of awesome Jayne one-liners just boggled the mind. I also totally enjoyed hanging with Shemeska and Clueless at the big dinner, but you gotta run Planescape next time, man! I'm also holding you indirectly responsible for getting me to think about Planescape again -- my group is planning a "Law & Order: Sigil" for next semester now!

This was my first game day. Through poor planning, I didn't get up to the 4th floor until a little after nine, so I missed meeting everyone before hand.

I finally got into dice games around 10:30A followed by a Pitch Car race.

Rel's pirate game was a blast. I don't have exact quotes, but I'll try:
"Aargh! (said by all at least once, many times by me)"
"The hobbit weighs more than the elf!"
"If the boards are creakin', we won't be a-sneakin'!"
"I poked at the black box with a pillow (after failed open chest roll)."
"More zombies!?!"
"I'll try to knock 'im over the side."
"We're caterers. No pirates here."
"Nope/missed by 1(%)/not even close/that reeks (spoken by me as I missed attack after attack)"

I appreciate everyone's hospitality. This is a great event and I plan to support it down the road. ;)

You sound like me after my first Game Day. :)

Glad you had fun!

I used to know someone in nearby Waxhaw and had been in Monroe once. It's a bit of a drive to get there.... ;)

New concept: Pirate caterers.... specialty: shish kebobs.

I'm back to work... sigh... :)

...But I had a fantastic time at the gameday. It was as always a great time hanging out with Rel, Rel's wife, Alenda, Belen, AIM-54, The Universe, Queen D, Adamantine Angel, Nakia, Cthulhu's Librarian, and this time getting to meet at least three spouses; it's always nice to know who's responsible for for keeping those guys on good behavior. ;)

Nakia's Grim Tales WW2 game gave me a well-needed dose of surviving by the skin of my teeth; I'll wager that Corporal Carl Grabowski was the only soldier in World War 2 to ever be targeted with a Hold Person spell. :D

A few fun moments for me:

--Grabowski: (upon seeing zombies rise) Holy Mary, Mudder o'God!"
Lt. O'Malley, holy man: (casually said while in the midst of smiting zombies): "Do not take the Madonna's name in vain, my son..."

--Marie LeMarc running over Italian Fascists as if going on a Sunday morning drive

--The Universe's great British Officer accent, followed by his Super-mario-brothers-style Italian accent when Bluffing in Italian. :)

--Sergeant Joe's insistence that there were no supernatural occurances: "Those dead didn't move... trick of the light... nope, that SS didn't shoot a gout of flame from his hands... he had a flamethrower... trick of the light... that SS isn't glowing... trick of the light... he's not strong as a gorilla, either..."

--Kami Vandisstart, Gurkha killing machine, and his poor Kukri/potato peeler... :)

----------------------------

The Equilibrium game that I ran went well, too - everyone said they had fun with it, and it went MUCH better than I had even planned. I worried the Cleric would be a little too over the top, but he wound up being exactly what I hoped -- a mook meat-grinder, but not overly powerful versus the big NPC's. Contrary to being too good, everyone was cheering while he was dancing around the battlefield, taking out 3 to 5 enemies per round. :) Everyone got their chance to do something cool, or fire incredibly powerful weapons, and fun was had by all.

Some of my favorite moments:

--The hacker, Override, slicing his way into the Palace of Justice sub-net (crit threat confirmed), getting tons of info, installing a back door, and basically being a smooth mamma-jamma, and then going back in for "doctoring one last piece of info" -- and rolling a natural 1 fumble, losing his back door and alerting the police to his whereabouts. :)

--The driver, Mauler, causing a "diversion" for half of his team by driving an armored van INTO the front doors of the Palace of Justice, cutting doughnuts in the lobby, while teammates are firing automatic rifles and a .50 cal out of the back

--The cleric, Flynn Davis, cutting down 4 out of 5 ememies on the second init count before his two allies could react.

--The infiltrator recovering the "sense offender" cache, and people's reaction to it. :)

--and finally Lola's line when the armored van comes to their rescue in one scene, by slamming into the doorway: "Mommy's home children, time for a ride!"

I love the game days. It is a blast to hang out with so many quality people. I had a lot of fun in Nakia's and Henry's games. They were just what the docter ordered after the previous weekend working at the annual meeting. Killing Nazis and Grammeton Clerics is a very good way to blow off steam.

Also, I got to end Nakia's game with a one strength. Who knew that I would rloll so many 6's on the spell burn die. Ouch! My final line of the game was "Ok. We won. Who's going to carry me?"

It was awesome to have QueenD, TU, and AIM-54 stay for the weekend. I loved the chance to hang with you guys.

I already look forward to the next gameday.

I had a great time! Next time I know not to get the buffalo chicken sandwitch at Two Guys, which caused a food stupor that I was slow to shake off for Rel's afternoon pirate game -- which was a BLAST! I really liked the scenario and really liked the Warhammer system.

Glad everyone had fun in the WW2 game. Sorry the Gurkha killing machine was, well, not. Better weapons and/or feats next time for him, promise.

Good to see everyone again as well and make some new friends.

One quick note of something I found in my pre-gen GT experiences: The Master Eldritch Flow talent and a pretty good ability bonus is a must-have for spellcasters who want to have some fun with their spells in a one-shot. Turning those burn dice to d4's mean that they might get more 1's, but it also means that anything BUT a 1 or a 4 won't burn 'em.

I also had a lot of fun as usual.

Two fun games at opposite ends of the spectrum it seems, but Roy and Theresa were very fun to play. Thanks to Alenda and Henry for fun games--well done!

Nice to see you all again,

Riggs

See, I got both ends of the spectrum at this Game Day! And it's really hard to decide which was more fun, to be honest.

If Kami had been Smart/Fast with the sneak attack talent tree, he would have been a whole 'nother character! And the "Weird War" inclusion into a billed "Sgt. Rock" game was most welcome for me. I had a great time.

And with no familiarity with Equilibrium, I honestly chose Flynn Davis thinking he was going to be a support character where I could hang back. Turns out I was wrong... and happily so! There really weren't any characters that "hung back" in that game! At least half the group was W-A-A-A-A-Y out there at some point or another.

Many thanks to both Nakia and Henry! Great games both.

(Sorry for the late post, but this is the first opportunity I've had to sit down on the 'net for any real period of time since the Gameday.... :\ )

Kunimatyu - excellent Firefly setup, and well run, also. And I don't rightly reckon we could have had a better batch of Browncoats, either - Dollum played an excellent Book, Alenda WAS Kaylee, and we won't even discuss Oncarou's Jayne. :D My only regret is that one more of our friends didn't attend and fulfill his evil plans to make Kernelpanik extremely uncomfortable by playing Wash to Kp's Zoe. :]

It was also cool finally actually meeting Queen D and The Universe, and sharing dinner conversation with Nakia and his wife.

So, when is the next Gameday, again? :D
