NC Game Day XVII: October 4th 2008

Liquid Awesome
It's time once again! Time for crazy good fun at the NC Game Day. How crazy? So crazy that we're having the September Game Day in OCTOBER! Yes, we're defying the very laws of time!

Our official website can be found HERE. Here is some important info that you need to know, especially if this is your first time attending:

To schedule a game, the following must happen in order:

1) You must register on this site, and request to be a GM. If you were a GM on a previous Game Day, you should still be a GM on future Game Days, so go to step 3.

2) An admin (Rel or Morgenes) approves you as a GM.

3) You submit your event (My Events -> Submit), filling out the required fields and submitting it.

4) An admin reviews and accepts the event, and assigns it to a table.

Important: Right now we are only taking submissions for GM's to run games. If you're going to run a game send it in as soon as possible. Players can take a couple weeks to look over their options. At 5PM on Friday, September 12th we will open up registration for players to sign up for these games. We will continue to take submissions for games after this but there is a good chance that folks will already have signed up for stuff so the sooner you get it in, the better your chances of having players.

If you want folks to be able to sign up for your game in advance, use Open Game as the "Game Type".

The "slots" are 5 hours long and run from 9 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. When you submit your event, you probably want the start and end times to line up with those slots so that it doesn't interfere with other games your players might want to play.

The additional notes field is so you can tell the administrators about any special needs you might have, like a certain size or shape of table, or power needs.

If you have previously registered at the NC Game Day site then you don't have to do that part. If you've previously run a game at NC Game Day then you don't need to register as a GM. All you have to do at that point is submit your game and have it approved and slotted.

Questions? Post them here.

For my part, for the first time ever at an NC Game Day, I won't be running a game. Instead I'll be lending a hand to one of my favorite GM's: My 7 year old daughter. Yes, Samantha the Red has grown up to not only run but DESIGN her very own game system and I gotta say, it ain't bad at all. So I'll be helping her run that in the morning slot.

1) I trust I am registered as a GM? I go event->add, and it seems to pull up the a form I'd fill out to run a game.

2) Mousing over "pre-reg seats available" says "be courteous to people without internet access and consider leaving a slot or two open for sign-up at the event." Does this really happen? Do most GMs do this?

Yay!

This time around I'm going to run a game inspired by Girl Genius.

In a Victorian-Steam Punk world ruled by Mad Science. Europe has been split apart into many small kingdoms each ruled by a single genius spark, or as known by their subjects when they are not around mad-boys, or that evil bastard up on the hill.

The game is set in one such small kingdom somewhere in Eastern Europe. Recently the citizens of this kingdom have been cut off from their hotsprings; the local spark lord has decided to re-route the underground river's course into his own lair to power a bubble-bath of immortality. Clearly it is time for regime change.

So the fine citizens of villages and cities far and near round up any would-be adventurers, do-gooders, minor sparks, and other people they won't particularly miss and have sent them on their way to do battle with the sudsy lord.

You get to play the intrepid adventurers, brave volunteers, and poor schmucks forced at pitchfork and torch point to battle the evil genius on the hill. Do you have what it takes? Or? Will you die a screaming painful death? The villagers don't care as long as the hot water is turned back on!

I've not decided what system to use yet, considering Dread(non-jenga) for a looser faster game.

Rel, just as a note. I think a number of the open games from the last one are still up and will need to cleaned out. Just as a note.

As for this time, I am considering running a Feng Shui or Godlike game if we need another.

I think the only thing he's changed so far is the countdown date. It still says gameday XVI, as well.

I think so far besides yourself my game is the only one announced.

1 = Yes.

2 = Not really. That may well be a holdover from the days when this setup was used for TrinoCon. Don't sweat it.

I believe I've dealt with most of the housekeeping issues. If you see more then let me know.

Toras, did we ever get clarity on the time we have the space? I seem to recall that it came back with us only having it until 6:00 PM. If that is the case then we need to either get that fixed or else adjust our expectations accordingly.

What game should I run?

Is it mostly a D&D crowd or if I ran something weird and off the wall would I find players?

Off the wall will be fine. It's very rare to actually see a D&D game at the Game Day. In fact, perhaps it is so rare that it wraps right back around to intriguing!

You'll be fine either way.
