D&D 5E Necromancer Games - 3 5E books announced!

My concerns with the kickstarter........

1. The rule aren't even out yet. So don't know if I want to fully support the edition.

2. So in October the Complete Core of D&D will be out. You have November target release date.
How is the rules segment of the material not going to be rushed? If I'm going to drop $120 I don't want inconsistent material. You could of waited a few months to do the KStarter.

3. I have bought a lot of FFG material for PF/S&W/3.X. As fan of the company I don't want the recycled material for 2 out of the 3 books. Wish it was more original. If you are asking for all that money I would expect newer material rather then recycled ones.

I'll give it a whirl...

1) Fair enough. Fortunately, the Player's Handbook will be out before the Kickstarter ends, so you can judge then.

2) Steve Winter is one of the Authors - who (I believe) also helped write the official 5E D&D adventures coming out shortly. This shouldn't be much of an issue.

3) This Kickstarter is to see if 5E fans want Necromancer products designed specifically for their game. If you are not going to be a 5E player (or you are, and don't mind converting things yourself), then this Kickstarter is probably not for you. For someone like me, who hates doing conversions myself, I'd be all over this if I were going 5E.

They also fight the narrative that they are providing guidance, by example, on how to use the OGL for 5e.
When you say "they fight the narrative", do you mean that they are denying that they are providing guidance by way of example?

EDIT: I did what I probably should have done before replying, and read the blog post (thanks for the link!). That all looks very sensible to me - not a surprise, given that they're an experienced OGL publisher - including the remark that "we also don’t want to make it appear that we’re telling other people how to use the OGL license in the context of 5th Edition".

For my views on the legality of this sort of cloning (and I frame what I think the questions are, but I don't know the answers to them), see this post in the SRD5 thread.

4th stretch goal in sight!

The Kickstarter is still moving upwards. Only $7k or so until we open up the book of lost spells. Our contracts are all in place and writers are writing adventures. Monsters are being statted, and we are ordering art. Thanks everyone for the awesome support so far, we still need help getting the word out!

Are any of you guys coming back to D&D after a long break, as I am? This Kickstarter project is important and worthwhile to me in part because its creators express a set of values I'm striving to embody in my game. Never mind the fact that the content sounds extremely compelling. I will, however, echo the call others have raised for a little peek at the contents. Throw us a page or two from the monster book or something.

No video game or movie purchases this year for me! I just need great 5E books and plenty of MacAllan 12 to sip while I engage in that oh so satisfying pastime of game prep.

+1 for MacAllan. Personally, I'm not participating in the kickstarter. Saving my money for the 5e books, assuming my group enjoys Phandelver enough to switch.

If we do switch, I'll start looking for more material in early 2015.

Updates

Only $1100 to ten more monsters and $6100 to a third book.

We will be posting previews at some point over the next 3-4 weeks. Steve is working with the authors right now on the adventures--maps and art have been contracted (waiting to order them until the authors are done).

There is a ton of new material in the spell and adventure book. The monsters may be a bit redundant with Tome of Horrors, but many new ones are going in a as well.

Keep spreading the word! We are almost funded for that spellbook!

We are pulling from the Tome of Horrors series as well as Monstrosities (the Swords & Wizardry monster book). We have a preliminary list of monsters at the moment.

Wait, isn't the Book of Lost Spells unlocked at $45,000? If so, as of this writing, we still need $10,759 to unlock it. The project has currently raised $34, 241. I hope we get there. I'm backing all three books, and eagerly awaiting them. My table is full, and they're ready to take on as much old school style 5E role playing material as they can get.

Updates coming soon!

Look for many updates and interviews with our writers and developers, as well as art and content previews starting August 1
