Need a paladin-esque core class

Beowulf

First Post
My DM doesn't want any PCs to be paladin, but he has given me permission to create a class along those lines.

What I had in mind was a paladin-like class, but more centered on offense rather than defense; more like a cleric/barbarian rather than a cleric/fighter.

I was getting ready to start creating when it hit me that I could save myself lots of time if I checked with the fine people over at EN Boards.

So here is my plea: has anyone created a core (NOT prestige) class like this. If so, please either post it, e-mail it, or post a link or something.

Thank You.

Paladin is really a prestige class. I would suggest going either with a fighter-cleric multiclass, or be a barbarian going for the Templar prestige class DoF (Kord of course).

You can just turn the Paladin's special abilities (Aura of Courage, etc.) into Feats available to holy Fighters. Whichever special abilities your DM doesn't like (e.g. Detect Evil), he can outlaw.

This is a little ironic. I just popped in to look for a Paladin PrC and find this similar thread. Considering your view on it, do you happen to have a write-up on a Paladin PrC? If so, please drop by my thread.

As for your delema Beowulf, are you sure your DM ment for you to come up with an entirely new core class? Most DMs don't like that. (I know, I know. You= )

I like the Cleric/Barbarian Multi-class idea. There is also the Barbarian/Druid idea (if your DM will lift the weapon restrictions), for someone who is so fervent in protecting nature that they are almost at the level of an aggresive Paladin. The Wild Shape would also come in handy as your character progressed and the animal companians could not only provide a horse, but also a few spies.

There's also the Cleric/Ranger, who dedicates their life to fighting a spicific foe of the church.

What is your character concept besides just a "Paladin type"? Maybe it will give us some ideas.

Of course, if you're set on the new core core class all of the above was just a plug for my thread. :D

New Paladin Class

This is funny I just finished making a new Core class that are Paladin like. I dubbed the class Divine Champion. I hated the way Paladins are “shoe horned” to fit every good type of deity. The class I made up gets their abilities/powers from their god’s domains. Each domain has 3-4 powers and a Divine Champion gets to choose 3 domains from his or her deity. They only receive spells based on their domains. That mean no two Divine champions are really alike. The class is kind of like the old Dragon article “a paladin for every color” but in one class not several. I will be play testing this class for the first time this weekend. After some feedback form my player and some tweaking I will submit it to Fancc.org and the Netbook of Classes. If you want a “preview” I will be more than happy to E-mail you a copy. All I ask is that you send me your thoughts on the class. What you like, what you don't, what you would improve etc. It is a LONG class write-up (Something like 10-15 pages).

You could check out my Kai Lord core class.

Based off of Joe Dever's Lone Wolf books, and recently playtested and revised. Also, if you have any feedback about it, that would be great as well!

I would love a preview netnomad. I'll even show it to my players and see what they think. I know one in particular that will comment. Send it over.

Thanks.
