Need Feat/Skill advice for 12th level paladin

Hi there.

While I am not a newbie to gaming, because of a long commute to work and even longer hours at work, I have not been able to game regularly for about two years now. Luckily for me, things are clearing up soon and I'm scheduled to join a Kalamar-based campaign a few weeks from today.

However, I am still new to 3E because of my job commitment. I'll be entering a fairly high level campaign, and the DM and I worked out a good background and character concept to fit into the campaign.

To summarize, my PC will be a 12th level human paladin, a follower of The Knight of the Gods/The Valiant One/etc. However, being new to 3E, I'm having trouble deciding on feats. We're basically sticking to the original PHB and not using any supplements at this time.

For feats, I picked Ride-By-Attack for 12th level; Great Cleave at 9th, Cleave at 6th level; Mounted Combat at 3rd level; and Power Attack and Weapon Focus (longsword) at first level. I picked longsword because I have a cool miniature that I want to use (the same figure on foot and on horseback) Any feedback?

For skills, I'm not sure if I should focus on a few skills and put a decent amount of points into them, or try to spread my skills around and be good at a lot of things? Any thoughts?

Knowing the DM, we tend to avoid long dungeon crawls, with more of the combats being large, outdoor epic combats with lots of participants.

Thanks

I have a couple suggestions.

Drop Great Cleave and pick Spirited Charge. You will use it more often to greater benefit. It is vital for a mounted knight type character. Most of your foes will be too strong for the Great Cleave feat to be of much use, but Cleave is still good.

Max out your Ride skill. Split your remaining skill points between Diplomacy, Heal, and perhaps Handle Animal.

Your choice of weapon is up to you. Longsword is fine. Use a lance for those outdoor epic battles.
