Need good intro module

This is going to sound weird but...

Orcfest by Fast Forward Games.

It is one of the best introduction adventurers available. Offers lots of opportunities for role playing, infiltration, and combat.

The Burning Plague is a great introductory adventure. Intrigue, traps, kobolds, it has it all and should you wish it links up with the other adventures available at Wizards to build an adventuring locale. You can, quite literally, build a storyline around these "one-shots" ala 1st edition modules.

Of course, its a great stand-alone as well. :) It also has all the basic areas of the rules included so that new characters understand the whole of the game rather than just parts - ie there is a trap that includes the thunderstone so you learn about deafness, blindness and traps; there is an area where the attackers shoot from above into an area that has cover so you learn cover rules and attacking from above; and of course there is the plague so you have disease rules.

Would there be enough time to run Sunless citadel at a convention? Seems like that was a rather longish module if I recall correctly.

What about using the D&D Basic Game? It's roughly 3.5 edition (simplified) and what I use to introduce new players to the game. It includes a short adventure played on the tiles they provide. The Char sheets are already done (and vastly simplified -- plus contain explanations for what things are).

Everything you need to play is contained in the box.

Sunless Citadel was pretty good but I would also recommend The Crucible of Freya from Necromancer Games or NeMoren’s Vault from Fiery Dragon Games as good 1st level adventures

I agree, Orcfest is probably the best 1st level module that I've seen.

Aw rats..I didn't see there was a time limitation. If that is the case I would recommend the Burning Plague as well. It is a fun short adventure.

Great names for pc's Nyaricus! I almost laughed aloud in the office - which would have taken a lot of time to explain. No one else here EVER gamed.
lol, well a couple said they got them from the PHB, and the player of Lox was the GURPS guy and made the name up on the spot (actualy, funny story here, I suggested the last name of Ironbeard and he got a funny look on his face - turns out he was thinking the same name for his guy  ) and the elf was amde by a gril who's really into anime, so I have NO idea where she got that name from. Anwyas... :D

Edit: Oh yes - Nyaricus, please DO post those pc's stats! I think it would be useful in any event! I'd find them useful if nothing else....
I'll post them up in the d20 NPC wiki (maintains by Jurgen off the boards) and put a link in here when I'm done. I ahve th sheets right in front of me, anyways :)
