adienpryde

First Post
My DM told me to pick some cloaks/robes for my 12th level monk as a item to go with my Monks Belt that I got for joining a monistary.

Starts are/were
18/18
21/18
18/17
17/15
18/18
12/12
AC:24

I currently have...
Ki Straps
Ring of Protection +2
Monks Belt
Bracers of Blocking
Ioun Stone(Alertness)
Chi Staff

He told me to choose with GP value between 25000 and 100000.
I would like to get a beter AC but I am open to anything that would be usefull. I will becoming a Kensai next level so I have all the offence I need.

Aslo, what is the right range for AC in this level range in general.

Thanks

+5 Cloak of Resistance (25K), Intelligent (12 K)
Powers: Cure mod. wounds 3x/day, bless 3x/day, faerie fire 3/day, (8.6K), Detect thoughts at will (44k), continuous detect scrying effect (10K).

Final tally: 99.6K

Saves are always good!

Suspect this should be in the Rules forum?

Major cloak of displacement. 50000GP. Far better than AC - 50% miss chance for 15 non consecutive rounds per day. Scuppered by True Seeing, but you can't have everything!

Or, using the same formula - Cloak of Blink. You'll want something to See Invisible and the Ghost Touch ability. Less way for attackers to get round it.

Wings of Flying - 54000GP. At will flight is nice?

If allowed, you could do like Particle_Man said and pad the extra cost by making the thing intelligent.

Guess you meant something to counter those? ;)
That won't be easy to come by...

Besides, Ghost Touch doesn't work against ethereal beings, only incorporeal ones.

I'll say what I always say: +5 cloak of resistance, with a "mirror image" effect in addition, which can be activated as a free action (a la boots of speed) and can be used for what? 20 or 30 rounds a day? Mirror Image is only a 2nd level spell, so it should be more than haste and/or cheaper. Get it not as cheap as possible, but with a longer duration.

Again, True Seeing will screw you over, but outside of that your saves will be outlandish, your hit point total will remain solid given the many misses a high caster level mirror image generates, plus you will be immune to a lot of targeted spells (because of the images).

It's a very, very solid defensive item. As for offense -- sorry.

Having survived a fight against someone with a vorpal sword only due to my puny displacement, I recommend the Cloak of Minor Displacement (always active) perhaps combined with the saves boost.

I was a little unclear! What I meant was 2 separate things:

1)Ghost touch(*) and see invisible allow you to ignore the miss chance from your own blink?

2)That it's harder for attackers to strike against a blinking opponent than a displaced one.

(*) Although I hadn't realised Ghost Touch was only for incorporeal creatures. On looking - confused myself about ghosts, manifestation, ghost touch, etherealness and incorporiality. Altogether very messy.

So for this to work you'd need some way to strike ethereal creatures. However the heck you do that!

Either that or some item that makes you incorporeal rather than ethereal.

I'd just go with displacement. Far less of a headache.
