Need help with a God

I my current campaign I find myself in a unique position. I decided to play a cleric of "the sea god" as were on a ship most of the time. However there is no god of the sea. So I have the opportunity to create one. I've read through most of the other gods that are ocean based and taken some ideas from them. I've decided on at least three domains (Water, Storm, and Ocean). I've decided to make my characters god a woman. I want her to be somewhat spoiled, intensely beautiful, high maintenance, with a demeanor that can change rapidly. The other gods view her as a "new god" and of no consequence, which makes her fume. I also think that it might be cool to have her be the daughter of one good and evil god.

So that's basically what I've got. I'm unsure of her alignment. I think CN might fit but talking with another player he thinks CE based on other gods alignments. Earth is LE, Fire is CG, and air is LG.

She also desires new clerics to prove their loyalty. Each new cleric is drowned and then revived. It's placing your life in the hands of the god. If she judges you worthy then you are able to be revived if not...

Another thing is that my character is on a sort of holy quest. He's been given the task of bolstering the ranks of the sea god (I don't have a name yet) and destroying all other heathens and blasphemers (basically a holy war on ALL other clerics and churches)

Sounds like you've got a pretty awesome concept there already. I can't think of anything to add.

Recruiting might be a hassle, as you explain to new clerics that they need to drown before they are invested. :)

I also think you might want to go with CE, since she's pushing for holy war against ALL other churches. Sounds like she's got an ocean-size chip on her shoulder.

Later!
Ozmar the Land-Bound Cleric

She sounds CN from your description... but then, I don't like evil gods. (If there are evil gods, who's going to worship demon-princes?)

Sounds like she could also have Renewal as a Domain, and certainly Chaos.

What other kind of help do you want? I agree that she already sounds like a full concept.

Well I'm looking for more ideas. You mentioned a few domains which I'll take a peek at. But the two first posts also point to a problem that I'm facing. CN or CE.

I haven't thought too much about a weapon but I'm thinking about the trident. Most of the ocean dieties seem to favor that one but, I don't know. It doesn't have the flair that I'm looking for.

It was mentioned in a Discworld novel that the Sea Queen chooses her own sacrifices. "Hmmm... I think I'll take... that ship over there." You could bargain with her, but she always claimed her payment later, usually when you least expected it.

Most gods demand some sort of tribute, so I'm not sure if that sends her over to the evil side. Tribute in the "sea gods" case would be things to make her happy or calm her when she's angry (if your married think when your spouse is made at you for something that you may or may not have done).

Whenever you have any kind of doubt about a god (CE or CN in your case) always pick both and create two opposing churches that follow the same diety and are in conflict with each other.

CN - Mistress of the Storms - a more typical sea god. She brings wind and rain. Followers pray to her to be spared her capricious whim. Weapon is the dagger. Sacrifices of minor treasures are thrown to her once a month at high tide.

CE - The Corsair's Matron - she creates strong winds for pirates and privateers and those who would do battle at sea. One tenth of all wealth on board must be thrown overboard after every battle whether successful or not. Weapon is the cutlass.

These two branches of the godess show no hesitation to attack each other for each views the other as heretical. The godess finds this amusing and all victors of such conflicts will be granted a +5 morale bonus to their maximum hit points for one day.

... just a thought.

Personally I make the Elemental gods neutral (on the Good/Evil axis) and they draw their power from the elemental plane they are tied to... not from the worship of their faithful. They are more like the Titans from Scarred Lands than gods.
