Need Help with a Puzzle by DM

readin the last few posts i would say this...there could be any number of things we dont know about this game or what they have found so far (statues, swords, pictures, etc...) therefor we can only answer the riddle that was given to us with this thread. now it is up to them to figure out what this means...simply because we arent there to ask questions to the DM...speak the words aloud, or know what might have been passed somewhere in the dungeon thus far, or in the furure for that matter. now as for the first puzzle i notcied that if u take all of the letters that were doubled (tripled) u get the phrase "those who would e". there might be something else at the end that i just dont care to figure out atm...it was late when i looked at it =). but i did notice that the X's and .'s...in the first puzzle there were 7 x's and 5 .'s...and in the second puzzle there were 5 x's and 7 .'s...but whether this means anything i dont know. again unless the person who started the thread wants to keep us updated, there really isnt much more u can do but figure out the puzzle that was stated at the beginning. :p

Like Li, I too suspect there's another step involved in solving the second puzzle. Danged if I can see it though.

Here's the solution to the first puzzle anyway. Write the letters as three columns then read down the columns:

Code:
AVD
SET
TTO
HHO
OOS
SSH
EEA
WWL
HHL
OOT
WWH
OOE
UUO
LLL
DDD
SBA
EET
RMH
VOS
ESE
MTR
UHV
SIE
TGH
SHI
E,M
RS
I.e. "As those who would serve must serve those who would be most high, sd too shall the Oldath serve him."

(I suspect that "sd" is another typo, and should read "so")

Not sure what any of this has to do with
"X.X.X.XX.XX." or
"By the hammer fall is the mystery revealed:"
I was hoping that the 'hammer fall' or the X's might shed light on the same elements in the second puzzle. Maybe someone else can see the connection?

Dammit! I was just figuring that out! I'd just noticed the part, "most high, sd" when I paused because of the "sd" not making sense. So I came here to double check it.

And I'm also wondering about the Xs and periods. Because of the old AD&D adage: "IF IT IS THERE, IT MEANS SOMETHING!"

I think the other letters in the second puzzle still have some meaning in them somewhere. The inclusion of those periods increases my suspicion of this.

Alternate Solution to Puzzle 2:

"Never, while will's set to Evil's demand,
Will the blade of our ancestors rest in your hand!"

Makes more sense, don'tcha think? A good-aligned blade that can't be used with evil intent?

Never will we succumb to evil's demand while the blade of our ancestors rests in your hand.

It could be addressed to a good guy that weilds the sword. Like telling their leader they'll fight as long as he leads them in battle.
