Need Help with Aragorn Ranger

I'm using an alternate ranger with d10 HD that I found on this site and was planning on making my char. into a swift hunter with a Bastard Sword, but I don't know what skills and feats to look into, and how I should arrange my stats. Also wound Forest Reeve and/or combat trapsmith be good prestige classes for him?Shound I even make him a swift hunter? Or maybe dip into rouge instead. Anyone who is kind enough to help will be greatly rewarded. ;)

Play a straight Ranger.

16str, 14dx 18con, 13int 14wis 13chr.
This is for Strider, btw, not the general/king of the later series.
He is strong, but not overwhelmingly so nor is he is not as graceful as legolas.
however he can run for days and nights without sleep, and is always awake.
With an 18 con he fits well into a standard ranger, the d10 hp is unecessary.
Give him a horse as animal companion (movie version only)
TWF, track, endurance, minor healing spells. Going by fighting style in the movie, combat expertise is a must.
Survival, Ride, Hide, Move Silently, Spot, Listen, (maxed)
Kn history, geography, nature (not maxed)

edit: The D&D ranger concept was built on Aragorn. As far as I know the two weapon fighting skill is given to rangers due to the description of him fighting with sword and torch against the black riders on weathertop.

Point of order: the 1E ranger, who arguably was (with his OD&D predecessor) the most closely based on Aragorn (ability to use crystal balls, etc), did not have TWF. TWF arrived with the D&D ranger with the advent of second edition.

The most likely theory for TWF is Drizzt ... who as a 1E drow ranger could dual-wield because he was a drow (post-Unearthed Arcana). Somehow the TWF stuck to rangers in the edition change.
 

thanks for the tips , but I'm not really going for the exact aragorn stereotype but more of a "sorta-kinda-not-really" aragolas type char with alot of skills. The alt. ranger I refered to does not have spells,a companion, weapon style, or favored enemy but has terrain mastery, bonus "virtual" feats(works only if wearing light armor...ect.), and hunter's stealth(+2 hide and move silenty becomes +4 @ lvl.10) it should be somewhere on this site I just saw it 2 days ago.
Heres what I got so far:
Wood Elf
14 str. 16 dex. 13 con. 18 int. 14 wis. 13 cha. which would become:
16,18,11,16,14,11 respectively
skills: balance, climb, craft(trapsmithing)(just a dip for basic hunting type traps), escape atrist(dip), Heal, Handle Animal, Hide, Jump, Know.(nature, history, nobility,),
Listen, Move Silently, Search, sense motive(I always thought this would be a cool skill to try), Spot, Survival, Tumble, Use Rope.
Feats: Whirlwind Attack(because I'd be getting all the required feats so might as well),
Improved Trip, other basic nessesitys.
also I was originally going to do TWF and give him Improved Unarmed Strike, so I could deside between an extra attack or extra damage, but I'm not sure if unarmed counts as offhand.

I would argue that Aragorn's remarkable healing skill would translate into spells.

I think if you kept the ranger the same except for skills (more social skills on the list) and a combat focus tree built around single-sword fighting, you'd have something pretty close.

And Aragorn was tromping through the wild with a broken sword, anyway...
 



Much as I hate to say it, you might be better off with a Scout, by the sounds of it. Or multiclassing with that, anyway.

Then, things like Spring Attack and co. mightn't be too shabby (you mentioned Whirlwind Attack.)

I suppose he'll be wearing a shield on the other arm? That or another weapon, surely. If so, there are some nifty feats that might suit, throughout the various splats or online.
