Eh, similar. Some differences, but similar. Not nearly as prominently discussed, nor as consistently used.Degrees of Success are an integral part of the Nexus system already. It is called Margin of Success in there.
Regardless, I still think it's the correct way to go. Set the DCs exactly the same way you would for using actual senses, scale the penalties appropriately, and be done.
A big part of the problem, as mentioned in this very thread, is that the information sought and how difficult it is to learn is very much a matter of the setting. In some settings, reading the foe's ship (power supply, life signs, weapon signatures, shield status, etc) should be very easy - in others it should not.
I think what you're going to have to do is create a chart for each kind of information, and give each kind of sensor a rating for each kind of information. Kind of like with Spot and Listen, but for Power, Life Signs, Weapons, Defenses, and whatever other systems you decide need to be a feature of ship sensors. Which is a ton of work, but you seem to have gotten into that habit already.
