Need opinions on a Fighter level 2 Utility...

As of right now (since the game is tomorrow), I'm going to take Create Opening, since that seems to fit my play style a little better. If I end up not liking it, I'm sure the DM won't mind me switching it out for something else.

I've used this power, and it's quite good. Assuming you are a tough fighter with good defenses who can take some hits (and not an Eladrin pumping Wisdom or something with light armor), it is very useful. It allows your strikers to get in, hit something, and then you can get them out.

The other thing no one has mentioned is that this marks the target with a minor action. If, for example, you need to use your Standard action for a Second Wind, you can still mark a target with Create Opening, or use it to mark a second target.

That's exactly why I'm taking it. I haven't played too much 4e, but in the little experience I have, I've seen that I can make my marks awesome, and any turn where I don't mark an enemy can turn real bad. So being able to mark an opponent on a turn where I otherwise couldn't (like when using second wind) can be invaluable. Also, there are also opportunities where being able to mark two or more enemies could be great too.

Some tips for marking people:

1. Get a distance heavy throwing weapon

2. If you're a half-elf pick a controller AoE at will. Not because you care what it does or because you think you can hit with it, but because its a ranged burst 1 "mark all" power. This is enhanced by the new paragon tier feat that makes your elf encounter power at-will

3. Alternately if you're going to burn a feat for something like that. Multiclass feats are great especially as more classes arrive and the ability to pick a controller with whatever your secondary stat is increases.

4. If you can find a way to make enemies generate OA's without it being your turn you can make them like that.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons why I love my Dragonborn Fighter...Dragon Breath is great mutimarking/minion killing power. I usually try to fire it off in the first round or two of an encounter when enemies are clumped up.

And the OA advice is pretty good too. Remember, ANY attack no matter what source is able to mark someone. If they're already marked though, having a Rogue that can draw OA's (especially if he's Artful Dodger, in which case it will probably miss) you'll get to make a CC attack on them for attacking an ally.
