The planescape campaign I played under many years ago used various ambient/electronic tracks, some of which I use when running (I also use various industrial/noise tracks). The listing for my original campaign is from mimir.net:

Interesting lists!

I thought I was the only person who owned Spooky's Found Sounds (note-do not check out any other material by them, as it is entirely different, think diva-vocal dancy.) Nice to see Aphex there as well, but where's Autechre???

There's a talented "industrial" composer named John Bergin you might want to check out.
His CD for Warhammer 40k "Music for Hammering" has some stuff that seems tailor made for Mechanus.
I'm at work at the moment otherwise I would post a short sample... still, a Google search should turn up a few things.
Here's his website:

Trivia bit - He was on Trent Reznor's nothing records label at one point, under the Trust Obey name (similar to Godflesh material.) Surprised to see his name dropped here.

I would also suggest the compilations Clicks and Cuts vol 1 and 2. More subdued on the whole than just clock sounds. Click beats, whirring melodies that almost aren't, and the occasional deep bass groove.

The group Pan Sonic also could make for a decidedly darker take on Mechanus.

Autechre are certainly on my gaming music playlist - as I said that's quite an old list from my old GM.

Other artists I've used for the planes are orphx and monolith.
