need some hardware help please :)

i would like to purchase a sketchpad/mousey thing, where you draw with a stylus on a plastic pad and it draws on the screen, but i do not even know how to begin my hunt because i do not know what they are called.

any help or guidance would be appreciated

I have one of those myself that I bought about 3 years ago called an Acecat III. Its great for doing work in Photoshop, much more cotrol.

Do a search online for "Graphic Tablets"

Under the input devices heading there is digitizers/tablets this should be what you are looking for, they have them broken down by size. Pricewatch is a great tool for finding computer parts and accessories.

Knowing you're an artistic sort, you will absolutely want a Wacom Intuos graphics tablet. They're currently on the Intuos 2 line, but I can say that my 12"x18" Intuos (1) is absolutely incredible.

Their pen system completely rocks. It allows programs like Photoshop to take advantage not just of how hard you press the pen, but also what angle you hold it at and how fast you move it. It includes an eraser (just flip the pen around for a completely different tool), at least two switches on the pen, and all kinds of cool stuff. Using the 5-button mouse at the same time as the pen, I can whip through all kinds of image editing and creation in an incredibly short period of time, allowing me to focus on the work rather than on the tools and the application.

wacom is highly recommended. you can pick them up dirt cheap on ebay.
