Need some help for a Return to the Temple of Elemntal Evil Campaign.

First Post
Hey guys only the second post.
I was looknig for ideas for random encounters.
Basically I have added some new factions to the original bad guys and need some random groups for them to run into.
They currently are at the monastery and uncovered the new occupants are members of the Scarlet Brotherhood (They cleaned it out once a year ago.), looking for artifacts of Tharzidun. After they dispatch of the brothers, I dont think Suel will be too happy and might send a a group to punish the party. So thats the first group I need.

The second is the Juilex cutlists. I ran an encounter already wiht a MindFlayer and his minions in the service of Jubilex searching for Lareth in Nulb. I am splitting the Elder Elemental Eye up and making them either Servants Jubilex or Zuggtomy in the outer Fane and throught the mines.
I thought some reprisal by the Jubilex cult might come up also. '
So any advice on set encounters with these or even Tharzidun Cultists will be appreciated.
BtW There are 10 in the party at EL 8 average. I use MetaCreator and the Monster Maunual.
thanks Tim

Make sure you check out the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil forum on Monte's boards. Lots of good advice there.

First of all, how far are they into the module? It sounds like they've cleaned out the moathouse and have visited Nulb. Have they gone into the Crater Ridge Mines yet? If so, who have they come across?

Personally, I'd make some of the various Temple/Bridge factions into those random encounters you are looking for. Maybe Victor (the assassin) is part of the Scarlet Brotherhood. By doing this, you can tie them into the CRM, and give the NPCs in the CRM things to do so you won't get caught up in a long dungeon crawl.

If you're really looking for new encounters, you could try something with Psychic Warrior/Monks (a Scarlet Brotherhood favourite) or an Oozemaster (do they still have that PrC in 3.5?) for Jubilex.

Evil temple

They have went to Nulb and killed Lareth I made him not yet whole like in Hellraiser. He was guarded by a mid level demon. Lareth begged for his life but to no avail.
Prior to this they cleaned out the Moathouse originally run by another DM. She sent them away from the adventure for a while and she quit. I took over and brought them back. The Scarlet Brotherhood had took control of the Monastary to glean out the artifacts of Tharizdun that a spy in the party had seen. The SB posed as true monks who wanted to build a Monastery at the Moat House. The party decided to attack the monks after fulfilling the job. They are in the fight with the monks and their minions as of now. Then they plan to go to the MInes with a dwarf priest (another spy for the SB) looking to reclaim his families mines.
Thanks for the reply and the help Tim

In that case, I would totally tie in what you have (Jubilex & the Scarlet Brotherhood) with the NPCs in the Crater Ridge Mines.

It also sounds like you have some good player hooks there, especially with the dwarf heading back to the mines. I like the sounds of where that might lead. (There was a campaign log on Monte's boards that had something along those lines... I'm not sure which one it was, though.)

I'd do something like changing the Earth temple so that it worships Jubliex instead of "Earth". Replace xorns with suitable-CR level oozes. Or you could just use the xorn/earth elemental stats but just describe them as oozes; I believe that elementals and oozes are pretty similar. The sword of earth would shoot out a gout of slime that hits for acid damage.

You could instead change the Water temple to Jubliex. That might work out better, because of the power levels and the politics in the mines, and Water's offer to the PCs.

Then I'd make the Fire temple the temple of the Scarlet Brotherhood, which works since Tessimon is human (make sure she's Suel). You could say that her/the Fire temple's position is due to Hedrack being a member of the Scarlet Brotherhood as well.

I should be able to post more later. So what exactly do you expect to happen in the next adventure? (I'm thinking that if they head to Rastor, Tal Chammish could be a member of the Scarlet Brotherhood as well.)

I will incorporate your ideas, I want to keep the Brotherhood as an outside interest to play against the party and the Temple itself but enough could infuse thmeselves into the fire temple. The more I like this becuase The party was gone for a year. The SB has to be on the inside those sneaky gits. Trying to take the mines first.
BTW Im cutting out the whole node thing with the Prince of Fire IMix. There is just no way that I could rolepaly a godlike being or should they be able to dfeat one.
thanks again tim

On the Juiblex front, if you check out Necromancer Games' Chaos Rising adventure, there are several useful NPC cultists of Juiblex in there that you could pretty much snag immediately (level adjustments may be necessary, of course).

I can't think of any Scarlet Brotherhood strike forces that are readily detailed and easily findable. Perhaps there's something like that in the 2e GH book of the same name. The pregen PCs in the Adventurer's Guild module Mission Brief 6106 SD XXXIV by Christopher McKitterick would be good---players portray a SB strike force in Luekish IIRC, and the PCs could be adapted to 3e if you can find a copy; it's relatively rare, however.

Here are a few ideas on the Scarlet Brotherhood. If you have the Complete Divine book, the Black Flame Zealot feels as if it was specifically made for priests of Pyremius. The 2nd Ed Scarlet Brotherhood book (by Sean Reynolds) gives excellent backdrop infomation on the Scarlet Brotherhood. I would tie your monks searching for the Tharidun's artifacts in with a desire to repair the black hexagram of Hesuel Ilshar that was shatter by a paladin's holy sword. Or they could be involved with the Black Brotherhood (p.102 LGG) from the Hold of the Sea Princes. Either way the recovery of these artifacts would be vital and ensure the Brotherhood would send more of their people once they discovered the deaths of their brothers.

Thanks Guys

Great Help
I will incorporate some of each. I have the Scarlet Brotherhood on down load. It was more helpful for campiagns in Suel and the Jungles.
I will check the cultist and the black flame zealots. Im thinking 3 or four bad multi class SB.s , one with the Psionics wont be too much of push over . Found an article in Dragon at the store on Zugg and will check the Jubilex cultists out.
Thanks Again
Tim
