Need some ideas for low level characters to instantaneously travel long distances...

I am looking for some examples of how a low level character (say Character Level 6) can instantaneous transport himself (and others) over a great distance. Basically using teleport-like magic. The only idea I can come up with is to have a Use Magic Devise-centric character (perhaps a Warlock) that buys Teleport scrolls and uses them. Are there any other suggestions? If you had to make a level 6 character that had the ability to instantly teleport himself (and others), how would you build it? Using 3.5 Core, FR and Complelte books. Alternate races are allowed too (such as Githyanki).

Think scrolls are the only real solution... though.. it depends on the situation. If the DM wanted them to teleport long distances.. he would probably make a lab or a special building.. where you could teleport to one alike for a small or greater fee.
As a player there isn't many ways except scrolls...

How often do you need to teleport? Buying scrolls could be prohibitively expensive. It might be cheaper to pay an NPC to cast some sort of spell for you.

How about a magic item like a helm of teleportation, but cut to 1x per day? Still expensive, but no more so than buying a bunch of scrolls.

1) Hire someone to create permanent teleportation circles.
2) Use a portable hole to pass groups of people through ring gates
3) As mentioned, use boots or helm of teleportation
4) Use a staff of teleportation
5) Design your taxi-guy from a creature that has an innate, freely useable teleportation ability (like archons, demons devils, etc.). Even if he can only teleport himself, he can still bring passengers along in a portable hole or bag of holding.

:\ Hmmmmmmm, perhaps if you have your players cast rope trick while in a rope trick they could get a one way trip to the astral, perhaps from there .... :] if they live.... they may find a way to that distant location they needed to get to.

You mention FR, so how about portals? Not sure if you just need a one time means of long distance travel or to many locations, but portals can work well. The realms are full of them and its pretty easy to come up with why a portal exists and how many of them there are. Might do the trick for you.

Since it sounds like you are the DM allow them to gain freidns with a guild or some organization that has teleporting magic that they can use. They won't always have it but it can be used whenever you need them to use it.

Build a shipping guild.

You have several Shipping Guild locations - one in each major city - that each have four Permanent Teleportation Circles (North, East, South, and West)

Each Teleportation Circle points to another, similar location (North to a more northerly Shipping Guild center, East to a more Easterly center, South to a center to the South, West to a center further West)

In each of these centers is a map with a "You Are Here" marker, with the locations of the publicly known Shipping Guild centers.

A fee is charged to enter a center, with a number per person, per large animal (draft animals, usually), and per cart/wagon/other large container.

If centers are spaced every day's walk or so (or whatever is appropriet for your campaign world) you can get anywhere in a very large nation in a very short period of time - a negligible amout of walking to navigate the centers, and a day's walk from the center to the target location. Great for a merchant's guild or some such - move limitless amounts of cargo in short order with only a large initial investment.

Would be quite a pity if someone came through with Illusiory walls to put over the maps, though....

Of course, that assumes you are the DM.....

No I am not the DM... Ok, I will give you the situation...

Player needs to make a level 6 character.
Party has been seperated.
Half the party is in the middle of combat, the other half of the party is traveling on foot.
The half that is on foot is at least an hour away. But we don't have an hour to spare, we are counting in rounds here.
The new level 6 character will jump in with the half of the party that is on foot.
Since half of the party is in combat, the object is to get the other half of the party to them in a number of rounds.

So level 6 character has to come into the game with a way to "teleport" or instantly transport himself along with 3 others (or at a minimum, 2 others).

Any ideas now? :)
