Special (magic, modern, or sci-fi - for a generic system) items which you can describer in one quick sentence. I've made a brief start. It's all very casual. The idea is to make a list of 20 or so generic items.
  • Healing Potion. This adds +1 Health.
  • Holy Grail. No, you can’t have that.
  • Invisibility Cloak. Or ring. Could be either. The latter might be evil.
  • Magic Carpet. It flies and you can ride it. It might be a broomstick. Or a jetpack.
  • Magic Sword. Does +1 damage on account of being magic. And sharp.
  • Magic Wand. It gives you an extra die on Power rolls.
  • Talking Car. It obeys your commands.
  • X-Ray Glasses. They do what they say. Can’t see though lead, because that’s what it says in Superman.
(Don't worry about the stats; it's more the ideas).

They don’t all have to be fantasy — iconic gadgets and technological wonders are totally appropriate too!

Victoria Rules
Reality Paint - whatever you paint on a surface comes out real either permanently or for x-amount of time - can be used to paint a tunnel or door or window for example, that work as such for as long as the paint lasts. Artistic talent optional; if you can get it sort of close the paint will figure out the rest.
Reception Hat - wearer tunes a knob above the left ear and can receive or intercept any remote communications (magical, psionic, or on mundane airwaves - these can be settings on the tuning knob) passing through wearer's location; a knob above the right ear is for volume; and understanding and-or translation is not provided - you hear what you hear.
Tin Hat - cursed version of the Reception Hat; it works the same but substitutes what it thinks you want to hear in place of any actual signals received.
Oxygenator - small device held to nose (must be held by hand), allows-provides normal breathing in any situation e.g. underwater, in outer space, in otherwise-poisonous air, etc.; but doesn't help with anything else e.g. water pressure, ambient temperature, etc.

Is this the sort of thing you're after?

Iconic gadgets huh? I have a couple more things...

Grapple Gun - what it says on the tin. 1001 uses and nifty retro styling.
Relic of St. Stephen - protection from icky superntaural badness
Demon Tattoos - can be commended to come to life. Snakes are popular.
Swiss Army Spy Watch - usually contains a laser, or a grapple, or explosives.
Tarot of the Loa -used for divination and contacting spirits

Drum of the Dead - keep up a steady beat to animate and control the dead

You state "generic items" but "generic" varies system to system.

A powerful magic item with 5e might not be so powerful with Shadowrun.

Bring more.

HMS Dreadnought or USS Lexington - for the era, top-end military tech applied to a naval vessel. Downside: owned by the Government, gives you a ride to where the job is that needs done and some supplies (but no help). Upside: can cover your retreat / escape with the McGuffin and prevent hostile pursuit.
Wedding Gift Toaster - everybody appreciates this and either can use one or knows somebody who does. +1 CHR to Persuade (or Bribe?) somebody to do you a favor.
55 Gallon Drum - full of some fluid (usually industrial chemicals) but could be empty. Create rolling travel obstacle or A FIRE and smoke.
Waterbed - as you expect. Jinxed version has cold water in it or squishy slime / mold / mildew or springs a leak on you. If this item is rare, folklore or spam ads say it has aphrodisiacal properties.
Listerine - original flavor. How can something that tastes so bad be good for you? +1 CON (and break any breathalyzer) to anybody who can swish with this.
