Perhaps Qiss or Vashqiss as a race name then Vash'Mathilou as an individual name. I prefer the idea of a shorter race name but smooth, watery NPC names would be cool.

Apam-natat

Waiora
The Polynesian goddess of health. Her name means 'water of life'. Bathing in her well, a sick person will soon be completely recovered, and be healthy for the rest of his life. It is also a mythical lake that contains the water of life. It is also a mythical lake that contains the water of life. It rejuvinates whoever drinks it or bathes in it. Unfortunately, the location of Waiora (Vai-Ola in central Polynesia) is unknown.

They're an aquatic race with semi-transparent skin (so you can see the ghosts of bones moving underneath) with very light bones to aid swimming. They have little webbing between they're fingers and can throw bubbles of energy stuff which distorts the air sort of like depth charge explosions (that U571 film, or whatever it was.).

Well, what does their language sound like to foreigners? Like someone gurgling under water? Like whale or dolphin song? OR are they named by the outside world? Do surface dwellers call them Phibs, short for amphibians, or try to replicate the native tongue and call them Eeyaaiee?

They're language is all bubbly and popping sounds (as expected) - quite impossible to understand unless you're a speaker of it. No written language (although runes are used in their society). Surface dwellers don't really have a name for them yet - most of the commoners just scream 'fish-men!' or some such whenever the docks are attacked (Saughin often attack, so they're scared of anything even like that).
