needing help with dye.

in the Phb it some times talks about useing dye that i do not have and have never seen like d2 or a d3 how do you use these ?

d2- roll a d6, 1,2 or 3=1 then 4,5 or 6=2

d3- Roll a d6 1 or 2=1 3 or 4=2 5 or 6=3

you can also flip a coin with designated sides for a d2.

This work for any die divisible by 2 or 3

Not a problem, but I must say "Die" is the common spelling. I honestly came in the thread because I thought I might be able to help you color something.

Tranzquility, remember that a d2 can be emulated with anything that can give you two results. Heads or tails, high or low, odd or even, etc. A d3 is most easily served with a d6 divided by 2, or a d12 divided by 4.

You have to be careful when using dye, because most dyes will stain. Heaven forbid you get it on your whites.

LoL sorry i started to spell it die then i was like isnt that die as in you have died then i was like dye isnt that for clothing so i just decided dye was fine

Boy, this makes me think back to 1e... there were lots of odd dice ranges occasionally needed (especially for random scroll generation!)- d16, d32, d40... even the d30 started out this way!

You can generate any of these with 'normal' dice.

d16? Roll 1d8 and 1d6; if the d6 comes up 4-6, add 8 to the d8.

d32? Roll 1d8 and 1d4; if the d4 comes up 2, add 8 to the d8; if it comes up 3, add 16 to the d8; if it comes up 4, add 24 to the d8.

d40? Roll 1d20 and 1d6; if the d6 comes up 4-6, add 20 to the d20. And so on.
