Well, why don't you look at WHY you want outsiders to be turnable, outside of the existing domain abilities? I'd much rather do something like this...

Good; Turn/Destroy undead

Evil; Rebuke/Command undead

Law; Enforces order. You may take 10 on any one roll, regardless of the situation, once per day.

Chaos; Enforces disorder. You may force any one creature within 10 feet of you to reroll any one roll they just took, as with the Luck domain's granted power, once per day. You cannot apply this power to yourself.

...And then maybe think up alternates for the four main elemental domains.

It may not be the most perfectly balanced, but it does add the right feel compared to "+1 caster level".

Hey

Damn, so many good ideas. Now I'm thinking of having multiple domain powers or something. Sometimes I hate this game.

So I'm thinking of going through and making each "+1 to blah" abilities something better, but not too great; keeping turn undead for the Repose, Good, and Sun domains; rebuke undead for the Death, Undeath (some FR book or another), and Evil domains; screw the turning outsiders thing - it was just messing up some good ideas anyway; flipmode the paladin; drink some beer and stop thinking about Mialee in a bikini for a little while; and most definitely doing something along the lines of what Saepiroth quoted (who is that from anyway, S?) for Law and Chaos.

One final question, due to my need for support in every ruling I make in my little imaginary world - does the idea of three domains with the same ability seem like a bad idea to anyone? I'm liking it right now, but would it churn any of your stomachs as PCs?

Thanks all, you've been a great help

Me. I only used quote tags for formatting purposes.

It only makes a difference at character creation, so I don't think anyone's going to kill themselves over it. I'd request you don't get rid of the Death domain's deathtouch, though... Grim Reaper++;.

Just to make life difficult -

Make 3 domain abilities for each domain. Each with a different flavor (ex: Death- death touch, immune to disease, +4 save against death effects, rebuke becomes control undead 1/day, whatever). At character creation, chose appropriate ability. For a feat, gain another single domain ability. Now 2 domains with same ability no longer = gain nothing. Also, some neat options out there.... (Healing domain alternate ability, heal 1 HP when using the heal skill on a wound. Vermin domain alternate ability, every 1 lb of insect, spider, or roach eaten recovers 1 HP of damage [yes, roach is an insect, but saying eat roach is too fun to miss], or messenger with vermin, etc.).
