I'm not gonna overthink it. Nuclear weapons. In my wish, humanity understands the implications of nuclear power for weaponry, but has a natural aversion to the potential catastrophic consequences and intentionally ignores ever pursuing them. No exceptions.

Without a doubt Social Media and the algorithms which drive the divisions in our society would get deleted, smart phones are a close 2nd. I've said it for years.

Honestly a large part of me wonders if we are any better now than we were as hunter gatherers. Sure, the individual life lasts longer and we don't die of simple infections. But look at the proportion of humanity living in poverty, without access to water and food. We've made summers hotter and winter weather more extreme. Sure now we have AI Art and Penicillin, but overall are we really much happier as an entire species than we were back then? I think we probably led lives that were much shorter but also more satisfying.
Ask a hunter gatherer how many women and babies die in childbirth or children before the age of 5. Yes we have problems and many are self inflicted but there was never a time in the past that was better to live in than now.
This may also be of interest.

I was expecting something a bit order than social media from you lol

Nah, if I'm honest our society peaked in '99, if we could have prevented the proliferation of certain toxic aspects of tech, and the downstream impacts that have only become more obvious in the last 6-8 years, beyond that point, we would be way better off.

I realize that for the vast majority going back to a simple pastoral ideal is not acceptable, but the impacts of social media? Grotesque.

As for a specific technologies cookies seems like a good suggestion. Social media less so, because, uh, this forum is social media? Would crippling cookies have the effect of crippling online advertising systems? Because I definitely think that if you could kill variable online ads that would be a big deal and completely change incentives for the entire online ecosystem.
