Neverwinter Nights: Play from HD?

Is it possible to play NWN from the hard drive by copying it over and perhaps changing a configuration file somewhere? Most games I've played will explain how to do this in the manual, but NWN doesn't seem to.

I know there is a "no CD" crack out there for it, but I don't know to what extent it removes the need for the CD. Just do a google search for "nocd +neverwinter" and you can probably find it. I don't know if it will work with v1.20 as most copies of it are hacked into v1.18.

I found it on a Russian site, so if you can pull off a decent read languages skill check (DC 10) you can download it.

Be sure to save a copy of your nwnmain.exe before using it though.

AFAIK (meaning I haven't tested it), you only need the Play Disc for the movies and for cd key verification. Everything else is already on the HD.

What I presume James meant is that is there a way to play without the CD, like you could with BG and BG2. The answer being, as long as it's not online, I think you can. I don't know for sure though, like I said, I haven't tried it.

Ummm, because it generally speeds up game play, and my crappy PC needs all the help it can get?

Umbran: Who is discussing Piracy? If I own a game and want to copy it to my hard drive, how is that Piracy?

Did I ask if anyone would mail me a copy of a CD? No. Did I ask if anyone knew where I could download the game for free? No. I asked a simple question. Thanks for pointing me to the software page though, if these answers don't pan out, I'll try there.

You need a no-CD crack. While no-CD cracks are usually used for piracy, they have other interesting applications, like allowing you to run a game from HD and remove Safedisc or other copy protection schemes which can really murder performance on some games. Pre-patch Morrowind could gain 3 to 5 FPS simply by applying a no-CD crack.

You can find cracks for almost any game on...

Sometimes its a pain to only have only 2 CD drives and constantly switch planescape for NWN for Warcraft for GTA3 for yer pr0n archives for driver disks, etc, depending on what you are doing.

Plus those of us with a black case but white drives don't wanna open up the black front cover unless we have too. People might see the mis-matched drives and think us un-l337
