New Adult Swim -- What do you think?

The only new AS show I like at all is Stroker & Hoop. That's pretty good, though I think it might work just a bit better as a 15-minute show. It just stretches out a bit too long.

I've watched Boondocks a couple of times, and it's just boring. Animation looks nice, but that's it. I can watch Squidbillies, but don't really care to. I don't like 12 Oz. Mouse and I saw one episode of Perfect Hair Forever once a long time ago and didn't get it and just turned it off.

I don't count Robot Chicken as a new show, since it's been on for a while. It's, for all intents and purposes, Twisted Toyfare Theatre on TV, and it's usually a hoot.

Otherwise, I do like watching ATHF, SeaLab 2021, Harvey Birdman, Venture Brothers, InuYasha, Samurai Champloo, Family Guy, American Dad, and Futurama. Heck, Futurama is the reason I watch AS in the first place. I'm really looking forward to new episodes of the Venture Brothers, whenever those come out.

I sorta like FMA, but haven't really watched it. I also sort of like Evangelion, but I've missed enough episodes that I'm probably better off borrowing the set from a friend.

There was this one show on Saturdays a while back. I forget the name, but it was tied together because of this "Little Slugger" guy who'd come up and beat people to death. I started watching it, and actually got into it not too long before the end. Pretty good show, with lots of character interaction and surprisingly realistic violence.

Fullmetal Alchemist & Witch Hunter Robin are my favorites. They have surprised me with things I never saw coming, something that the Networks don't even try to do any more.

I agree that most of their Home Grown shows are a waste of animation. The one thing that has always bugged me about the Cartoon Channel overall is just how many great shows are not being shown there.

Galaxy Rangers, Thundercats, X-Men:Evolution, Bionic Six, Robotech, etc. There are so many "classic" shows that could be on and many that are not available on DVD yet.

And why are they showing the Goonies when they could be showing Akira, Vampire Hunter D, and so many animated movies?

The Boondocks is cool. I'm a long time fan of the comic, which is definately better, though. It's difficult for a paneled comic to make the transition to TV, though. I love the Dilbert TV show, but its nowhere near as good as the comic, for example.

The AS produced shows are pretty bleh, except Harvey Birdman and Venture Bros. I can't even watch Squibbles or the Hair show without physically shuddering at their mere sight. ATHF is hit or miss for me, and I havn't actually ever watched the one with the toys.

I mostly watch for the anime, but that's been pretty dry lately. I've seen FMA and EVA already so I don't watch those, and s-CRY-ed just lost my interest. Inu Yasha is a good anime, but the problem with that is that it caught up to the manga halfway through so we were hit with 20+ (guess) episodes of filler while they waited for the manga to end, which made the middle part boring.

I'm a Narutard, but I've seen up to episode of 161 of Naruto, Zach Bell doesn't do anything for me, Bobobo annoys me. One Piece has been butchered by 4Kids. Where's the good stuff? I've actually been more interested in RahXephon on G4, except that just finished up, so now they're showing Colorful... *sigh*

TV has not been kind to me lately.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: I'm trying to figure out why everyone loves this series so much, and so far I'm coming up blank. The robot action? Robot shows are a yen a dozen. The psychodrama? All I see is a bunch of head-cases with sticks up their butts. Misato's jiggling chest? I like to think my fellow enthusiasts have better taste than that. I've been watching this show for about a month now, and I just don't get why so many people claim it's the end-all be-all of anime.

That's simple, its a decade old anime. Back in the day, it was revolutionary. You're basically looking at something that spawned so much and was stolen from so much that now it looks highly derivative, when in fact it's the other way around. Now, as to whether its quality is deserviing of the respect it gets, I'll have to leave that to you to decide.

I'll say that it is deeper than it looks on the surface but not as deep as some make it out to be. Also, I own this one on DVD and the sub is much better than the dub (IMHO, and I'm not letting my anti-dub bias say that I don't think).

I don't know if it was a part of adult swim, but did anyone catch a show called Welcome to Eltingville? I believe it was on saturday/sunday at 1:30 or 2am. The show is about four typical nerdy/geeky guys whoo are into rpgs, comics, etc. It opened with one of their game sessions. It was funny, but it being so late I don't remember much of it. Rest was about how two of them fought over a Boba Fett figure in a comicshop witha trivia-off.

Yep, very late on Sunday night. I can't believe there isn't more of a buzz on EN World about this show. Very amusing show.

I dunno. I'm no stranger to 80s/early-90s anime... my first exposure to the medium was Project A-Ko and Record of Lodoss War, and I loved both. My favorite animated show right now is Mobile Police Patlabor. Eva just doesn't grab me. I'll keep watching because I've heard it gets better (I've only seen the first 6 eps or so), but I won't be holding my breath.

The English version does seem kind of lackluster, yeah. I saw the first two episodes in Japanese elsewhere, but it wasn't quite enough to form an opinion.

As I read over this thread, I'm amazed at how varied people's opinions are. Every show seems to be both liked and disliked.

Actually, I've gotten the impression that most people think Williams Street needs to stop making in-house comedy shows. On that count I particularly agree with Demiurge. In fact, anyone who could possibly find Tom Goes to the Mayor funny clearly has tastes so different than mine that I'm not sure we could successfully communicate. It would be like talking to an alien from a distant galaxy, or some Lovecraftian horror out of time.

The Universe and I have been watching Adult Swim since it started... really, it's one of the largest contributers to our finally getting together. :) For Christmas one year, he wrote letters to George Lowe (voice of Space Ghost and many others) to get his autograph for me... I've now got 4 signed pictures from George all with really weird Space Ghost-ish lines written on them... TU also wrote CMC to get me autographs and he went above and beyond the desire for a simple autograph by sending us an actual pencil sketch from the animators. REALLY SWEET.

On topic: I don't mind the "new" adult swim, but I care more about the old classics and Venture Brothers (quite possibly the funniest show ever made. "Don't touch it, Dean. That is a poison, magic pie") than the new stuffs. Sometimes, I miss the Oblongs... Strocker and Hoop can be pretty funny... I'm just happy to see Williams Street making enough coin to produce new, innovative, and funny stuff.

:)
