Drawmack

First Post
I've got an idea for a new on board game. Iron PC. Works like Iron DM except you have to make a character concept with the indrediants, what's everyone think?

Damn, you beat me to it. :D I was going to start this very thing in February, I just held off mentioning it because I don't have the time right now to run it. I also thought of an Iron NPC contest which would be all about enemies & villains. Have at it Drawmack! Great minds think alike and all that ... ;)

I would be all over that. Making PC's is one of my favorite hobbies. Sometimes I will get an idea, and just sit down and make a PC even if he will never be played.

I will runn the first one if all are agreed.

As far as the IRON NPC, well wouldn't that basically be the same thing?

Anyway I would like to hammer out the rules of the competition before we start anything and then we can always link to this thread when starting one to avoid a rules discertation. Here are my suggested rules up for comments.

Contestants: There will be 8 contestants and two alternates for each contest. If a contestant does not post to the thread for more then 24 hours they will be disqualified and an alternate will take their place.

Rounds: A round consists of each player making up one PC. Each contestant will face off against one other contestant with each creating a PC from the same ingredients. The best use of the ingredients to create a PC will will the face and the looser is eliminated from the competition. There will be 3 rounds to a competition. A 4th round could be held if the previous IRON PC winner calls out the current winner in a title match.

Contestents: First come first served. The first 8 to bite with be the 8 contestents the next two are the alternates.

Judging: You will be judged on accomplishing the goal of creating an original, playable character that seamlessley integrates the ingredients. Word count will be important as is readabiilty. Do not argue with judges decisions and be a good sport.

Entries: An entry must include a physical description or character sketch, a background, personality/role-playing tips, an equipment/spell list, an abreviated stat block in the standarized format found at http://www.d20statblock.org. The entry should not exceed 700 words, excluding the stat block. You will have 24 hours from the time your ingredients are posted until you must submit your entry. If you do not submit an entry in 24 hours you loose the competition.

Ingredients: Each ingredients list will consist of:
1. A list of 6 numbers generated by the Judge.
2. A race, class and character level (one ingredient)
3. An alignment
4 - 6. Judges Choice, players bane!!!

Comments, concerns, did I miss something?

I'm glad I have garnerd interest in playing, however I would like to hammer out the rules before I even start taking players. So read the rules and let me know your opinions please?

Sounds good (the rules, that is). Also, i have a game tonight and saturday and sunday. So, im not sure if ill be able to get in if you do it after 5 pm EST or before Monday morning 10 am EST

Looks good to me. One question. If we are doing stat blocks, are we supposed to roll up each character, use point buy, or use pregiven numbers?

If it was up to me, I would suggest that the ingredients include

1. A list of 6 numbers generated by the Judge.
2. A race, class and character level (one ingredient)
3. An alignment
and three other ingredients of the judges choosing.

Also - what criteria will be mainly used to judge the characters? Functionality, originality, playability, min/maxing, back story or a combination there-of?

Good questions wicht.

Taking suggestion, will edit the above rules post to reflect this decision.

Well, you have to write a playable character who seemlessly integrates the ingredients. So this is the main crieteria of judging. Though if you stick an ingredient into your equipment list and don't give it any backstory of how it got there that is not seemless inclusion. This means that you have to give all ingredient items back story and make it fit into that back story without it being a stretch.

Something else I thought of, characters can only be equiped from the core rulebooks (unless an ingredient does not come from the core rule books.)
