New Campaign Worlds?

I have little interest in The Hunt and Bluffside, but tell me more of Fall of Man. Pretty please?

You'll be getting my money by default with the AU adventures btw.

Well, it'll be a little longer than the next few months, and it plays around with some of the typical D&D tropes, so it may not be what you're looking for.

Nevertheless, if you want something that's different but still very much "D&D," and if you can wait long enough, you might check out Shadow Branch from MonkeyGod Enterprises. To boil it down to its simplest possible description, it focuses on a Men in Black/Delta Green-style organization set in a medieval fantasy setting.

Unfortunately, due to various outside factors, I can't give you an estimated release date, but it shouldn't be too many months away.

Have you considered Freeport? Or how about Oathbound? or Kingdoms of Kalamar?

Personally, Kalamar is my favorite. The products are very well done. The atlas, for example, is the most beautiful D20 book out there, IMO. There are plenty of supplements available and a number of good modules.

I do like Oathbound.

I don't know how much conflict there will be between AU and traditional DnD tropes.

From I understand, the change will be in the parts of the techniques not the techniques themselves.

Kalamar is probably the best 'traditional' setting I've seen.

I would recommend Scarred Lands above it, particularly for a Greyhawk player, though.

Scarred Lands is a little less traditional in some areas, but even more hardcore in others.

My favorite example of this is the way they treat wizards and armor: Why don't wizards wear armor?

-Armor check penalties.

Seems like some of them would eat up the penalties for the AC?

-Well, arcane magic also makes you very very warm, in fact wizards tend to wear as little clothing as possible, so there! Plus, it makes our illustrations all cool and funky.

And there you have it, even where it 'sacrifices' traditional tropes it does so in the name of remaining ever truer and more hardcore with regard to the game.

I've read different reviews for Kalamar products and while they seem very well done, the setting just seems a little dry to me.

Like I said, I'll be picking up AU regardless of any other setting I get. I absolutely love everything Monte has done with the system.

Morningstar sounds perfect. Will there be additional support besides the core book? What about the D&D magic system? Will it be altered in any way?

Thanks,

Nick

If you aren't adverse to an unpublished world, try the one in my signature: it is very detailed and about seven people whom I have never met have informed me that they use it to run games in.

Absolutely. I'm getting the outline for the second book together. In addition, I'm writing some free suppliments/teasers. There was a lot of material that we simply couldn't fit into the core book, so you'll find all of that information and more in the suppliments. Even though we had to cut some stuff temporarily, the core book has enough information to get your campaign going, and keep it going. The suppliments will be about expanding and deepening the information in the core setting book.

Thanks for the question, Kirowan.

Spectrum mechanics are an addon that expands on the standard magic system. An area might be aligned with a certain type of magic, say 'Profane', while edging out other magics, such as 'Benevolent' energies. Spells and magics that fall under the heading of 'signature magiccs' are enhanced, while 'countersignature magics' are hindered. By combining these descriptors in unusual ways, you can recreate a wide range of fantasy and mythological locales. You can recreate any type of place of power you can imagine with spectrum mechanics. These are scalable, as well, from weakly aligned areas that show their influences in subtle ways, to areas suffused with more power than the planes.

I think there should be enough information in this section of the book to use any magic system you want (Such as Elements of Magic), though the the system was designed with PHB magic in mind. I kept it open ended, since I've been thinking of developing an alternate magic system for a while.
