NEW char Bard lvl 14

Procite

First Post
Starting a new character:
the stats im working with:
18, 16, 14, 14, 12, 12

I would like to be a Chaos Gnome, supportive character with powerful "charm" humans and undead.

lvl 14 gold.

I do know the main enemies are :

Dread Necromancer (has lots of undead already), Beguiler, some sort of caster, and some kind of thief.

Since im a new player (less than 2 months) all i made right now is basic bard. Other players in my party have 10+ years of d&d experience.

I would like to make something (without asking them) that would surprise them :)

Im not looking into becoming a spellcaster, but an expert of persuasion.

What would you recommend?

Please PM me if you already made one for yourself or have some awesome builds :D

By "charm" do you mean along the lines of spells or diplomacy. Unfortunately without doing some tricks, most enchantment spells do not affect undead.

If you are thinking about doing a diplomacy specialist, then some things you might want to consider are: dipping into marshal and a level of mind bender.

Marshal provides skill focus(diplomacy) at first level and in addition it provides one minor aura. The minor aura lets you apply your charisma mod to a variety of things. The primary use here would be applying it to yours and party charisma skills or dex skills. You would pick charisma to add your charisma twice to your diplomacy, and you would pick dex because it applies to initiative rolls of you and your party. The main draw back is that you lose a caster level.

Mind bender requires working your skills abit, but you do not lose spellcasting levels and you gain telepathy. Telepathy lets you speak with any creature that has a language without having to know the language.

Marshals first showed up in the Minis Handbook, but I think was reprinted in PHBII
Mind bender comes from Complete Arcane

Have a look at Libris Mortis. There's a feat called Requiem that lets your bardic music affect undead, and there's a prestige class called Dirgesinger that gives you some nifty new bardic music abilities at the expense of spellcasting.

Hmm, let's see. Bard/paladin archer with Devoted Performer, Bow of songs (MIC), Inspire Courage optimisation... plus Divine Might.

Cha 18, Dex 16, Str 14. Max Charisma.

Go for full attack actions (4 + 1 haste + 1 Rapid Shot) and enjoy twice your charisma mod + inspire courage on every shot with a real good chance of hitting.
