New Character idea needed

What's the relative power level of the party? Are you all around level 4 (where your previous character, ah, 'died'), is that high or low? More to the point - what level will your new character be?

The scary part is, the DM was allowing me to play the horse I was poly'd into, which made for some interesting moments indeed... too bad I couldn't wield the Witchblade we were trying to recover...

Anyhow...

The total levels for all characters in the party are 4th level. The new character I'll be playing with will be 4th level, so if I go with the Druid/Sor, most likely he'll be 2/2, or possibly 3/1...unless of course I add a level of rogue, then it would be Rogue 1/Druid 2/Sor 1.

I kind of like the whole feral idea, but I'm not sure if it would mesh with the rest of the party. And as I stated earlier, I'm not concerned with being "hampered" at higher levels, I'm more interested in the roleplay and fun of this concept as opposed to power-levels down the road.

I guess I'm looking at trying something new for me to play, to get away from always being a Rogue, or Mage character. 3e opens up alot of new possiblilities that I'm trying to explore.

Bah, Halfling Druid with one level of Monk. Be the outcast Lawful Neutral halfling that always wondered why other people just can't behave. Use magic claw so your punches are magical. One or 2 levels of monk will get you a decent foot speed. And all around it seems like a class that you can have fun with.

This has some potential to it as well... Perhaps Monk instead of rogue or sorc.... Monk/Druid....hmmm.....

If you must multiclass Druid and Sorceror, I say go with Druid 3, Sorceror 1. At least that way you cast 2nd level spells with one of your classes. Having a familair is pretty cool for a druid, and you can use wands to bolster your arcane power. For this character, I would choose different sorceror spells than I would usually. Maybe Change Self and Shield. Shield is just awesome when you can stack it with armor, and Change Self would let you be some sort of light hearted trickster. Makes sense if you hang out with Pixies all day, and other fey creatures.

The halfling barbarian/druid has a certain special taste to it that I like... but how's about a single class halfling druid that has a profession within a small farming community, such as a shepherd, a farmer or a gardener?

This idea does rock...

How about a pure halfling druid, with an animal like a wolf (or something akin to the size of a war dog) as the animal companion. Perhaps focus on using simple weapons like the club (a 2-handed weapon which can benefit from a shilalegh spell) or dagger (light weapon which can be a Finessed melee weapon or a great thrown weapon for a halfling). Could be a sort of druidic light cavalry.

Well, I did decide to go ahead and multi-class Druid/Sor... but since the game is still a week away, I'm still looking for ideas. Should I split it right down the middle as 2/2, or would it be more beneficial to go 3/1 ?

Also, any recommendations for armor? I know I'm going to face arcane spell failure unless I go straight magic items, but right now I'm looking at an AC of 14.

As a side note, I'm also considering a Monk/Druid combination, since I still have time to weigh the options...

Again, feedback is appreciated...

I didn't notice before that you were still considering Monk/Druid.

Do it! It's much better than the Druid/Sorcerer, and you'll actually get to do something for the party instead of being deadweight.

With either of your ideas, you're facing an XP penalty; the first idea would give an almost constant XP penalty, but Mnk/Drd would be at least a little easier - Drd1/Mnk3, take the penalty until you raise Drd to 2nd level. 3 levels of monk give you better speed, great saves, 2 feats, evasion, still mind, Wis to AC, and stunning fist. IUS isn't really any good (1d4 damage!), but Deflect Arrows could be very useful. Evasion is great, especially with a good Reflex save. The increased speed will help you keep up with the rest of the group & give you more tactical options.

The Wis bonus to AC will help a great deal, since it's already high so you can cast druid spells well.

I would just like to point out that there is no reason why you can't keep your old character, if you want to. Polymorph Other can be dispelled, and if you have a 4th level cleric in the party it could actually be done once he reaches 5th. Even if you need a weeks worth of downtime, eventually he'll roll a 20 to dispel the effect. that being said, your character may not want to adventure anymore after being turned into a horse... It's a matter of personal taste :)

The idea of the halfling Druid is good. Breaks from the usual routine. I wouldn't take the levels in Sorcerer, though, to me halfling druid would be enough. Maybe one level in Monk, you would fight unarmed :)
I came up with a story for a halfling "paladin" character that never came to be a while back. If you want it, tell me.
