First Post
Hi all!

Another week of new comics is here! So, what did you get?

My stuff:

Flash #203: I'm really loving the "Ignition" storyline. This issue is filled with excellent storytelling; it's got a cool twist in the "Ice Killings" plotline that took me by surprise. (5 out of 5)

Rex Mundi #6: I think that this is one of the best "detective" stories currently in print. This isssue was a bit of a "pause" as a new chapter in the overarching mystery begins. Nevertheless, this issue delivers on solid pacing, rich setting, and dark mood through both tight narration and expert graphic composition. (4.5 out of 5)

Negation #23: Another excellent issue. Regrouping from the "jailbreak" scenario, the group finds themselves confronted with a former ally turned bad. I'm eager for the next issue. :D (4 out of 5)

Mystic #41: Giselle loses her sigil, when Solusandra comes to collect it. A decent story, but a bit too rushed. I'd have liked more time in Giselle's mind, dealing with her loss, instead of rushing to the next event. However, the art was beautiful in this issue. It captured the title's unique look and expressive compositional style in a manner that has been lacking for quite a while. (4 out of 5)

Catwoman #24: A decent read. The road trip ends in St. Roch, where Hawkman and Hawkgirl pay a cameo appearance. Fun stuff, but not a compelling read. (3 out of 5)

That's all for now. Still reading. ;)

Man, the new issue of the JLA was great. The end of the Burning storyline was hardcore and bittersweet. The best part is the return of an old member and how that member kick some Burning's butt! And Legion is looking good. We are going to get Superboy back in the Legion finally. Yes!!!

I picked up "Switch," the Batman/Joker one-shot. Very amusing. I particularly enjoyed the Joker thought processes on this one.

Johnathan

If you haven't picked up the new Silver Surfer series, do so. This one has an element of mystery and "Sixth Sense" type feel to it. Could very well be the sleeper hit of the year. I am anxious to see where the story leads.

I got the new X-Statix, a new Madman one-shot, and several issues of The Goon (a really excellent comic, by the way). Oh, and Hellboy Weird Tales #5 to boot.

More Stuff

Hi all!

I've got some more comics mini-reviews for you.

Avengers #72: Part 1 of the "Search for She-Hulk" storyline. Yawn. I'm interested in this plotline, but the "made-for-trade" pacing is tiresome; it's way too slow. Hopefully, next issue will pick up the pace. I'm a big fan of Kolins' art though. (2.75 out of 5)

Noble Causes: Distant Relatives #3: More intrigue and twisted relations occur in this issue. Very enjoyable. The "soap opera" superfamily finds trouble wherever it goes, be it messy divorces or parallel reality evil siblings. The greyscales are rich and moody. (4.25 out of 5)

Crush #1: A goth girl gets a spellbook on her birthday. Her family is abusive, her peers are mocking, and her neighbors are cruel. She casts a revenge spell and things goes crazy. Typical angsty teen escapist power-fantasy, but it's kind of fun. Hopefully, the story will grow beyond the stereotype in the next few issues. (3 out of 5)

BTW, here are a few links. If you're interested in Catwoman, Newsarama had an interesting article about the current run:

I've gotta give a 'yawn' to Johns' new Flash storyline myself. It's been, what, three issues or so and Wally's just now put the costume on? I like that the superhero side of the story will involve Captain Cold and the 'other' guy, but it doesn't need to take so long... I really love Johns' other stuff so I'll definitely be sticking with Flash through this slow patch since when it inevitably picks up momentum again I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun.
