New D&D Figs: 45-60mm!!

I thought the green thing you called a yuanti was a kuotoo, what with the bulging eyes. Who knows. I'd have to see these things up front.

one concern I would have about all in one packs would be repetition. If you bought one pack that happened to have a load of orcs in it you wouldnt want to order another whole pack that contained even MORE orcs, would you? Sooner or later the duplication would cause problems. I'd like to see a system set up like we have at Dragon Scale Counters where you can buy the pieces individually based on what you need. Or a combination (packs of common things AND individual pieces)

Well, I'm disappointed in that they are going with the company who makes the MK miniatures, meaning it will be very cheap, bendy, and un-correctable matereal, but for that cheap a price, I can put up with under detailed vinyl.

I was, however, impressed that the paint jobs, while lacking any great flavor, weren't the gooey, glossy enamel style crap that I've seen on other pre painted products. I don't know if it was the fact that they may have been matted for show, or the fact that matte paints are actually used, but they look.. Servicable. Hell, I'd probably just leave them with that paint job for my hoards that I don't actually feel like painting individually.

The quality of the miniatures is pretty hit and miss though. I was impressed with the little Lidda figure, the Drow figure with bow (I have the metal version, and I'm VERY pleased they are recasting these from CM), and the Wight. I was boggled, however, at how blah the Kuo-Toa looks, and how utterly little thought went into that elder Fire elemental. I was VERY surprised at seeing that Fire Elemental standing there so.. Boring.. Just seems to be no life in that model at all.

It was hard to tell, but I think that Werewolf is suffering from the 'Insanely massive head with iiiiiiitttty bitty lil' legs' syndrome that most 'creature' types seem to suffer from. CM did great Gnolls, with heads the right proportion to the bodies.. I can't stand models depicting 'critter' types with skulls that giants could use to crack open houses with. It is NOT that hard to make a werewolf/gnoll/whatever that doesn't look lanky as hell with a big ol' snarling head.

..Sort of reminds me of those weird dragon things from MK that a friend of mine and I saw at the local game store in a case. The only comment we both came up with was "Whoa.. It's like.. All head!"

But for the most part, pretty dern interesting looking. I'll reserve final judgement when they release more detailed photos later on.

Sadly, the store they have here is.. Well.. To be blunt, its bloody awful, and I'm not letting them gouge me when trying to pick up a second hand mind flayer single figure.

You're talking about Warp, right? Ah, yes, Warp, and the "Warp Tax" . . . price gouge is right. I buy my WotC D&D books from Chapters these days.

So, lead as in "big boss" and lead as in "Pb on Mendeleiev's chart" are not pronounced the same ? No wonders I'm better at writing English than at speaking it.

No they are like read and read. Hope that helps.

Yes indeed!

I used to buy my D&D books at Comic King in the Mall (Which was *THE* best place to buy, since the guy running the shop was terribly cool about discounts). I now buy at Chapter's as well, since Warp have lost what little minds they seem to have had.

I was also unimpressed walking into Warp's new location a few months after they moved, only to find that they STILL haven't really unpacked anything, or got their shop in order..

..How are they staying in business? The most time it takes most other stores who switch locations is roughly a day or two.

Now, if only I could find a source for model paint that wasn't enamel, I'd be set.

i called the bulging eyes one a kuo toa. the one i called a yuan ti/medusa was the one who you can only see from the back.

What do you know, my clock started ticking again...

About the collectability. It seems reasonable that players buy a couple of packs to get the model they want for their character, or swap with fellow players, and then dump the rest on the DM.

If these are examples of the kind of paint jobs we can expect they blow Mage Knight out of the water. There is actual shading on the Owlbear! I never expected that! Also the plastic used here looks like the same stuff that Games Workshop makes thier plastic minis out of. If it is these will be 'must buys' for me.

Still don't know about those bases - kind of bland but I guess that gives everyone the chance to customize their bases to the playing field they use.

Holy Mage Knight, Batman....

These things look a lot like Mage Knight figures, from the boxes (at least the booster boxes) to the figure to their bases (well, not clicky like MK,but same shape).

Not that this is a bad thing, mind you. I have a couple hundred MK figures I mostly use for D&D.

The paint jobs do look better than MK, but then again, some of the paint jobs on promo MK figures looked pretty good (and IMHO, the paint jobs in MK Dungeons were pretty good)

I wish there were more pics of the hero figs
