New Domain-Questions

ShaggySpellsword

First Post
I am planning on running an Eberron Campaign that focuses on Valenar Elves, their culture, and utilizes much of the material from Weapons of Legacy. In order to add a little flavor to the Valenar, I am giving their religion it's own domains.

This is largely inluenced by the Valenar Dragonshard from the WOTC boards

Keepers of the Past (N; favored weapon: double scimitar) Domains: Ancestor, Destruction, Protection, and War (as is, not with Spirit Steed and Hero's Blade)

I wanted to introduce a domain that focuses on ancestor worship, and knowing the exploits of your ancestors. I also really disliked of changing a domain for one culture, and wanted this domain to incorperate Hero's Blade and Spirit Steed. Finally, with Weapons of Legacy being a major campaign source, I thought showcasing the legacy spells would be cool. Weapons of Legacy screamed Valenar to me: each questing after ancient weapons once wielded by their ancestors, and unolcking cool abilities as they learn the exploits of the past. And slowly discovering that their ancestors were involved in their current struggles as well. Anyway, here is the domain:

Domain: Ancestor
Domain Ability: As the Bardic Knowledge class ability. Stacks. (Too powerful a domain ability? suggestions?)

1-Magic Weapon
2-Heroism
3-Revitalize Legacy, least
4-Spirit Steed
5-Revitalize Legacy, lesser
6-Geas/Quest
7-Legend Lore
8-Hero's Blade
9-Revitalize Legacy, greater

My current issues with spell list: I am torn between Magic Weapon or Identify at first level. Went with magic weapon so as not to give too many new spells to the cleric. Other options will be considered. Geas/Quest seemed thematically appropriate, but if there are better suggestions out there, I'm not stuck on it. Hero's Blade is an ECS spell only given to the Deathless domain at 9th level. I put it at 8 for two reasons: I think the Valenar should be better at channelling their ancestors rather than preserving them, and I couldn't put Reviatalize Legacy, greater at 8th because, if you had a legacy item, you could get no benefeit from your domain spell until 17th level. Is Hero's Blade too powerful for an 8th level domain spell?

Way too powerfull a domain ability. I'd give them a +4 bonus to know history related to their ancestors.

Identify doesn't work as well as Magic Weapon I think.

My take on it was that the individual spirits granted cleric abilities. You can read about Valahandra in my sig, which is a character I made using this concept.

Maybe I could go another way with the Domain ability:

What about: Perform (Epic) added to class skills. Bonus Feat: Skill Focus: Knowledge (History) or Perfrom (Epic).

This seems a little weak.

What if I added: Costs to Perfrom Legacy Rituals are reduced by 10 %.

What if I made the domain ability: Bardic Knowledge as a bard half your cleric level?
