New Drow Themes

The new dragon article is out: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Against the Matriarchs)

While some of the benefits are too circumstantial for my tastes, the article has some nice ideas in it.

Part of the level 10 Sorceror Adept benefits, however, will need some limiting:
In addition, once per day, you can perform an Arcana or Dungeoneering ritual of 10th level or lower without paying the component cost.
A character with this benefit could create tons of level 10 or lower magic items. Granted, the theme is only for arcane drow characters, but it's still has the potential to break a game, or at least a setting's economy.

Where do you think drow get all those items that dissolve in the sunlight? (It's not like D&D economics make any sort of sense.)

I'm sure it'll get errata'd.

Didn't Dragon 405 have ritual feats that sometimes let you perform certain rituals for free once per day? (I'd feel easier if the theme/feat/whatever let you perform a specific ritual for free x/day.)

I hope so. Mostly because, if it is not, it's a clear sign that they aren't paying attention to 4e very much at all anymore.

They did. The exception was item creation rituals.

Honestly, I'm otherwise very happy about granting PCs some extra free rituals.

I really like the themes... mainly because I want to steal some of the powers for drow NPCs. I particularly love the glass strike power. More than one drow wizard NPC is going to be using that one in my games....

I thought the fact that they weren't paying attention to 4E very much at all anymore was the clear sign that they weren't paying attention to 4E very much at all anymore? ;)
