New Editions

I don't think I'll be switching to the new edition when I DM, simply because for every change I like there seems to be another one that bugs the hell out of me...and I already have my own set of house-rules for 3E, thank you very much. ;)

A perfectly reasonable stance to take it seems to me, especially if you're the GM. ;)

Now, hypothetically, what if you were to sit in on a game where the DM runs 3.5 and provides 3.5 Player's Handbooks for each of his players so that nobody is forced to spend $30 on a new book? The books would likely be on loan (or stay at the GMs house if he weren't a trusting sort). Certainly to have a PHB for every player provided by the DM is an expensive option but it sure would eliminate the problem of forcing players to buy new books! My bet is that most gamers would be comfortable sitting at the gaming table if the GM were so accommodating.

My thought it that when sitting down at another GMs table you accept whatever rules edition he likes, including house rules, and if one doesn't like it one finds another game. Problems arise more often for long standing campaign groups where the GM makes major changes without warning or compromise.
