Battle Sorcerer

I know I'm alone in this camp, but that's what I put.

To me, I don't like the flavor text of the duskblade. I don't think of elves as being combat machines on the front line. I can see why people voted that way, especially with the flavor text in the PHB II, though.

In my mind, elves are more magic than melee. [Personal perception, I understand] Thus, I went with battle sorcerer from UA. They get magic primarily, but their melee isn't awful either.

I could also have supported sorcerer, ranger, and wizard in that order. But then again, I typically ignore favored classes in my campaign, so ...

Hey, no problem :)

EDIT: El remmen, that sounds really cool, actually :D IMC the dark elves, FYI, live in giant forests of trees twisted by their dark magics which causes it to be completely black under it's canopy, whether it's day or night. They don't live underground, as is so steriotyped :D

cheers,

For me it is a no-brainer: any
I don't get the concept of favoured class at all; what is the purpose of it? It certainly cannot be game balance.
It hearkens back to racial level limits in older editions. It also tries to pigeon hole the race into a stereotype - whether their design fits such a class or not. A halfling might be a fighter, for instance, without trouble, but if they decide to multiclass in any class other than rogue they will have a problem. Thus is the stereotype maintained.

Note that when the favored class concept was initially designed (in 3e) XP did not vary on an individual basis. If you fell behind, you did not suddenly find yourself gaining more xp due to being a lower level, so you did not 'catch up'. Thus the favored class 20% penalty meant that if you went this route you would always be behind everyone else unless you did some missions or quests on your own to catch up - if the DM allowed such. This further suggests that it was based off of racial level limits - except that instead of being barred from going beyong a certain level in a class if you were a certain race (which many houseruled into ignoring), instead you suffer a permanent penalty for not single classing unless you stick to a single class.

All in all, I too would prefer the removal of favored class, but then some might argue as to what to give humans (and half-elves) to make up for it. Another bonus feat or skill point? A permanent or semi-permanent class skill for all levels? Something else entirely?

Went back to my roots

I was tempted by both Scout and Ranger, but in the end I went back to the days of yore when Elves were basically a class that was more or less a Fighter/Wizard (man, I miss those days). I voted Duskblade.

I voted duskblade and would ahve voted scout and ranger if there was the choice for multiple votes.

seems as though my ideas are similar to most other peoples out there, though if there was a class out there like the duskblade but more magic and less combat, iwould ahve gone for that.

Yes, I think I understand it. But I (just like anybody) hated racial level limits when it was there. I have little use for stereotypes of this type. Halflings are stereotypicaly rogues because they are good at it and so on; that is pretty sufficient.

As I already hinted if you simply ignore it, there will still be humans and half-elves as PCs, and probably in the same numbers as before. And you actualy solve some other problems, such as what favoured class to give gnomes.

Favored Class can be a wonderful way to characterize the flavor of a race. For instance, instead of making the elf army commander as a Ftr 14, make him a Ftr 12/Wiz 2. That half-orc Cleric 10? Make him Cleric 9/Barbarian 1.

For the elf, I could easily change the Favored Class to either Battle Sorcerer, Bard or Duskblade.

Duskblade. Magic & fighting, all in one tidy package.

Now that you mention it, the Duskblade actually vaguely sounds like back when "Elf" was a class. They could both fight and cast spells well...
