New England Patriots - symbol on the field

OK, this has been bugging me and my friends for a few weeks now. What on earth is that symbol on the outside of the 50 yard line? We're stumped. It's long and silver and has some goofy yellow lines coming out of it, but none of us have a clue what it is.

Anyone know??

I am pretty sure that is the symbol for the stadium. I believe it is shaped (or part of it is) like the gray part and the yellow is fireworks.

I think. I could be full of crap.

[Captain Needles]

At one end of the stadium is a bridge for standing room only folks to stand on that overlooks one of the end zones. Near that bridge is a tower with lighted designs on it. The symbol on the field is a representation of that tower.

Excellent. Thanks Captain Needles. I noticed while looking at the stadium website linked above that there was a picture on there somewhere of a very phallic looking statue out at the end of the stadium (that didn't look anything like the symbol on the field to me at least), but I never saw any bridge in any picture I looked at.

I will let my friends know so we can get that strange wonder out of our heads.

I was baffled by this mystery, too. Another mystery--why was the field in such crappy condition Monday night?

I didn't even get to see much of the game. Not after Indy scored the first TD of the game. Had to get up for work at 4AM....
