New exotic weapon: The Quad-bow

Is this your final version?

Basically its a bow that grants rapid shot and iteratives to a standard action attack action..altho in a slightly odd manner.

{sorry, my dislike for unique rules is showing. I much prefer to have items follow current rules so that there are no odd interactions with other rules, like, fer instance, Rapid Shot..}

Mind if I do a quick re-write?

Exotic Weapon: Quad-Bow
The Quad-bow is almost like 4 seperate longbows grafted together by the grips. It is designed so that each seperate string is drawn by a different finger, and arrows rest on the grip between arms.

A quad-bow allows you to make up to 4 ranged attacks with a single attack action. Attacking with a single arrow incurs no penalties, but attacking with a second arrow at the same time incurs a -2 penalty to the attack roll. Additionally, each arrow after the second incurs an additional cumulative -1 penalty.

So, firing 4 arrows at the same time incurs the following attack roll penalties: 0, -2, -3, -4. The attack roll can be made at once or each can be rolled seperately.

Reloading a quad-bow is a move action. With the rapid reload feat, it becomes a swift action.

Finally, due to the need to essentially draw 4 seperate bows, quad-bows are made less stiff than normal bows and have a limited range and slightly reduced damage potential.

Quad-bow
Cost: 100 gp
Damage: 1d6 (threat 20, ×3 damage)
Range Increment: 20 ft.
Weight: 6 lb.
Damage Type: Piercing

Magic Item: Rainbow Quad Bow
The strings of this magical Quad Bow have four different colors: red, blue, green, and black. When using this bow for a ranged attack, each string grants a different bonus to the arrow.
-Black: The arrow becomes incredibly sharp, granting it a +2 to the critical threat
-Red: The arrow turns fiery red, and deals fire damage instead of it's normal damage
-blue: The arrow icy blue, and deals cold damage instead of it's normal damage
-green: The arrow turns poison green, and deals 1 point of constitution damage instead of it's normal damage (Fort Save DC 22 for no damage)

When firing one arrow, the owner much choose which string to use at the time of firing. When firing 2 or more arrows, the owner must choose which order the arrows will be arranged, so that the proper attack penalties may be applied.

Ah, now THAT makes sense, TheLe. Come to think of it, that seems like the intention of Asmor in the first place, I just didn't fully understand.

As for how it works? There would need to be a wrist-brace, like on a contemporary wrist-rocket or higher-powered slingshot. You'd have a horizontal grip instead of the normal vertical one, with the bows and strings stacked on the inside of your arm. When drawing the bows, the wrist brace would keep your wrist from taking the whole strain, which would be much greater due to the leverage of having the bows offset from your arm. Loading the whole thing in a single "swift action" would probably require gripping all 4 arrows between the fingers of your right hand, then dropping the whole lot of them between their respective strings at the same time and somehow nocking them without loosing your grip on them. It would take LOTS of practice to make THAT happen. Perhaps the nock stops on the strings could be designed to hold the arrows in place while your right hand nocks them individually.

(Yes, I take weapons pretty seriously. I think the drawing of a repeating crossbow in the PHB is a travesty :P)

Minerva Mayflower uses a quad-crossbow in Hudson Hawk. I can't find a clear picture of it using google or yahoo. Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Hudson Hawk, the movie?

Yup!! She shoots Butterfinger twice, then makes a comment about using a double crossbow for a double cross. He walks out to tell his boss with four bolts in his chest (she shot him twice though). The scene isn't more than a few minutes long.

You can go here to have a look: http://www.propstore.co.uk/product_info/pid/168/cat_id/7/view/1/ob/itm/num_display/10

Sadly, it has been sold, but you get the idea. It's probably a twin shooter that was reloaded between scenes, but the design is there.

PS: Yep, defintly only fires two (the site has close ups).
