New FR Dragon Article: The Wailing Dwarf. Reveals some new crunch.

Don't see any evidence for this view in the above article - seems like they're really interested in secrets, not who is "appropriate".

Thanks.

I also wonder, who the "secret makers" are.
I don't think they are dwarves.

Here're the magical items listed in the article.

- Clockwork Blade of Venom
- Bow of Death's Rain
- Punching Dagger of Quar-Shan
- Jagged Staff of Hellgate
- Astral Mace of Blasting
Heh. How long before somebody complains that Adjective Weapon of Noun magic items are "totally WoW"?

Do we know this is 4E information? I liked the article, but I'd like more detail and less responsibility on me as DM to make it up from here (I've got a lot going on in my life other than D&D). Also, a 1 mile high statue? That is hard to believe even in a fantasy setting.

But, all in all, a good article that is the kind of article that I liked to read in Dragon.

Rituals and spells can be 'taught' to others.
- This could be just fluff.

Ah, but imagine it wasn't. Wouldn't it be awesome if rituals had specific requirements and you were only limited by your ability to find someone/something to teach you the ritual and meet its pre-requisites? You could restrict Raise Dead and such to Cleric/Paladin and those devoutly religious, as well as throwing in a monetary cost, time needed, number of people needed and so forth. But something like scrying, perhaps anyone could find out how to do that and with the right time/money/items pull it off. Teleport too, might require a specially prepared area/token item and thus reduce sudden-attack-syndrome, but learnable by anyone with the right abilities/feats - Int for instance so that Wizards find it easy to qualify. Lots of possibilities!

Sounds like UA Incantations .

I hope for something new. I also think the rituals will be at least linked with the arcane or divine power source, if not classes.

Umm... Noun of [Gerund/adjective/Proper Noun] is D&D Magic at its heart.
I've been joking about that since 1990.

I read the article, and my first thought was "Yoink!"

The idea that each character is identified by their Magic Item of Niftyness grates a little, but I'm not worried about it. What I do like is the emphasis on diplomacy with the Naga (although I note there is nothing to say the Naga won't talk - and then attack anyway...) and I like the hints and tidbits of the further descriptions.

Very good article, and I might hang on to it!
