New Gnome, good or bad?

I don't know if anyone has broached this subject yet on the boards, if so, I've not seen it. But for those of you who play gnomes, what think ye of these changes for 3.5? Favored class Bard instead of Illusionist? I've not played a gnome in third edition yet myself as I'm not much into Illusionists, but a bard I enjoy. But another question I have is this: Why a bard? I would have thought that Wizard would have been more appropriate. Have any of you played a gnome Bard before? Does that race suit itself well to the class of Bard?

I like it, 'cause it's different.

IMC, though, I've made Gnomes a Tiny-sized race, because that's even MORE different.

Really? That is different. What were the racial mods after that? STR -4, CON +2?

Well, it could be said that having a specialist Wizard as your favoured class is too restrictive. Bard makes more sense for a prankster than Wizard (i.e. you can get ranks in Perform!)

I prefer the new gnome with the bard as preferred class, but I have to say that I've never been a gnome fan, so that doesn't say much. I think had I seen Gimble as the iconic gnome when I first bought the 3e PHB, I would be more forgiving of the race. Nebin has those damn goggles, which always struck me as silly. :p All IMO, of course.

Best,

Gnome favoured class should be Druid

However Bard is a MUCH better choice than Wizard

Wizard actually makes no sense for Gnomes who are NOT stuffed shirts who spend time studying magic. Scorcerer might have possibilities but overall Bard ain a bad compromise between mischief and magic...
