Did anybody else find themselves imagining the Shire and picturing hobbits when trying to imagine the favored class? All I could see in my mind were hobbits!

Well, you guys and gals know the drill, but here it is anyways:

So, you are in charge of WotC - what should the Haflings favoured class be? Still the same ol' rogue you know and love, or the savage Barbarians from Dark*Sun, the stalewart Strongheart Hafling fighters from FR, or... something completely different.

Rogue is my choice.

Fighting Man upto Level 4. :D

with the introduction of Supplement I Greyhawk and the optional Thief class i'd say it shifted to Thief.

Thief it is then.

I voted for Fighter, but here's an interesting thought. Suppose halflings, who are much like humans in any case, are flexible enough to have two favored classes (or, I should say, a halfling PC could choose one of two): fighter and rogue. There's already a kind of precedent: half-elves can choose any class as their favored class. So why not allow a Halfling PC to choose either Fighter or Rogue as his favored class?

I won't go too far on the tangent since it's not central to the poll, but first is that humans and half-elves don't choose any. They ignore their HIGHEST class.

That said, Favored Class seems an artificial limitation to me, just like paladins not multiclassing. If halflings should be good rogues, then give them the abilities that would make a person look at them and say "that guy would make a great rogue". I think this is true for Halfling Rogues, Dwarf Fighters, and Gnome Illusionists, but NOT true for Elven wizards, which is why there's dissension for elfies. If choosing a race for your wizard, almost every other class has better options for it.

And, Halfling Fighters don't really sync for me, a halfling rogue will do more damage in the halfling style than a fighter in many cases, and Scout is the option I'd use for a more warrior minded halfling.

OK, then let me rephrase. Allow halflings to ignore their highest class as long as it is Fighter or Rogue. Otherwise it cannot be ignored.

With the way halflings are now portrayed as nomadic Gypsy style wanderers, and keeping in mind thier traditional association with stealthy professions, Im going with Scout. Although I think that both Rogue and Ranger both fit as well, Ranger has a bit more nature association than I link to Halflings, and Rogue has a more necessarily urban focus, Scout seems to combine the two.
