Roaring Twenties: Background
Setting: Chicago, 1923

The City of Chicago is a metropolis along the shores of Lake Michigan. The city is divided up into 28 Wards. The city is run by a Mayor, William "Big Bill" Johnson, a Republican, who is 2 1/2 years into his four-year term. He ran for election on the slogan "Chicago: A Wide Open Town!", meaning that he favored business expansion and increased prsperity for all. "Wide Open" has a second meaning, as his campaign was largely financed by Joe "The Boss" Massere, the largest bootlegger and crime boss in the city.

Our story will be set in the City's First Ward, the section of downtown southeast of where the rivers merge (bordered by Wacker Drive and South Lake Shore Drive). The eastern half of this Ward (including the docks) is comprised mostly of working class Irish while the western half is working class of mixed ethnicity (Italians, Jewish folks, Germans, Polish, etc.).

Kingpin mobster Joe "The Boss" Massere has little interest in the First Ward, focusing instead on more lucrative Wards for his gambling, prostitution and organized theft operations. This has created a vacuum in the Ward for two new gangs to rise up, and Massere is quite content to let these gangs fight each other and leave his operations alone.

The oldest and first of these gangs is the Tolino Mob, run by "Big Al" Tolino, a 36-year-old Italian, born in Naples, Italy who grew up in New York City. He began his gang on the day that Prohibition became the law of he land in January of 1920. The other First Ward gang is the O'Connor Gang, run by Deanie O'Connor, a 35-year-old Irish-American lad.

Castle Zagyg at NH Gameday

Hello fellows,

My name is Jeff T. and I'm the co-author of Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg: The Upper Works. I'm a New Hampshire guy, and I've cleared this date to run some games!

Here is what I'd like to do if anyone is interested: I see that the office is open for both the morning and the afternoon slots. Anyone interested in playing a marathon game of Castle Zagyg? We'd break for lunch the same time everyone else does.

Silvermoon, if enough people are interested in this, would this be okay with you?

Best,
Jeff Talanian

That works for me, although if you're using pre-generated characters you may not want to require the players to play both slots, as there are several people who might be available for one slot but not the other (such as some of the other Gamemasters). The second slot would still be the continuation of the first with the exact same characters but some of the player faces might change. I did that with a two-slot Wild West game a few years back, where most of the players were in both slots but each had a few solo-slot players in each as well, which actually improved the overall game.

Also, let me know the maximum number of players you'll want and what your requirements are for table space. Thanks.

Okay, let's go with 6 players + 1 DM (me). While it might be fun to shoot for all 6 players to attend both slots, I understand what you say might be more realistic, Jon.

No large amount of table space is required. Maybe something to roll some dice on, place a few character sheets, and draw some maps. I'm not a huge minis guy (did that sound oxymoronic, like eating jumbo shrimp?).

So, I will get the ball rolling at some other sites, see if we can attract some more interest...

Best,
Jeff T.

EDIT: I'll post more details on the adventure right here, ASAP.

Would you guys and gals mind if some of the folks from RPGBOMB.COM came down to run a game or playing in a few? Most of the admins (KillerDM, Blamm and I) for the site live in Southern New Hampshire. We can even bring some swag and announce the event on our site, especially since we have lots of New England gamers.

Heck I can dig into the OGC coffers to see what I have laying around as well :)

That would be fine. Feel free to announce it on your site (cool site BTW). Just let me know what you want to run, which slot you'd prefer and how many players.

For anybody driving here from a distance and planning to stay overnight on either Friday or Saturday I would suggest the following lodgings:

Untitled Document

The Stephen Clay Homestead is an excellent Bed and Breakfast just five miles from our house. They currently have nobody booked on that weekend. Check the website for pictures of the rooms, they have three rooms with queen-sized beds and also a two-bedroom suite for double, triple or quad occupancy.

Still six weeks to go. The game description has been added to Kriskraft's morning slot D20 Modern game. Still looking for at least one more game for the afternoon slot.
