New Highlander (TV) Movie

I've finally seen a movie that makes Highlander 2 look good. I feel a part of my soul missing after having watching Highlander: The Source.
Wow, H4 has to be one spectacular crap-fest to make that abomination look good.

Glad I missed it :)

Too bad. Not exactly surprising, but still, I liked the original and the series and kept hoping they could come up with a decent way to continue it.

If they're serious about continuing it, they would be well advised to perform a reboot of the whole setting. The fundamental problem with the setting is that Connor won the prize in the first film, which makes continuing rather tricky.

Add to that the problem that Highlander 2 was truly woeful, and you have a property that needs some serious surgery to revive... surgery that none of the subsequent attempts have managed to perform successfully.

Well, they said from the beginning that Highlander: The Series took place in a different continuity wherein Conner didn't with The Prize. So that takes care of that as far as one can allow for such a thing. It's an Alternate Continuity, like Marvel's Ultimate line.

But The Source is just... Oh My God... I knew sitting down it was going to be BAD. I went into the thing with a kind of car-wreck-watching attitude expecting to enjoy it's Highlander badness. But there are some degrees of awful that no level of preparedness can protect you from. This movie achieved those levels.
I found myself repeatedly turning to my wife and saying "Poor Adrian.. I feel so sorry for him". And at the end, my only response was to say aloud to the TV "You should ALL be deeply, Deeply ashamed of yourselves".

 Was it really that awful?

I wanted to watch it, but Torchwood was on at the same time, so I programmed my VCR to tape the late night showing. Unfortunately, I lost power. It still taped at the right time, but the TV reset to Cartoon Network and I ended up with old Astro Boy reruns. :\

Was it really that bad? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I actually think the series got worse which each sequel. I may be in the minority, but I think 3 was worse than 2, and 4 was the worst of the lot. The only good sequel is the recent anime, and that really has nothing to do with the films.

The TV series was fun...if you ignore the last season.

They should just say, "screw it" and start over. I don't mean remake the original, just create a new hero with the Highlander universe. And for God's sake, let's have someone who isn't another MacLeod cousin. :uhoh:

Anyway, back to the point. It's reairing on the 20th, so I guess I'll get my chance to see it then.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread and warn anyone who hasn't seen it yet:

I saw it today and all I can say is nothing about the movie was even close to "OK." The movie was absolutely dreadful - it made highlander: endgame, which I though sunk the series to a new low, seem like a masterful piece of cinema by comparison.
Your memory of the original must be tinged by rose-colored glasses then. Highlander has always been a cool idea that writer after writer and director after director have been unable to capitalize on. At least this one had Methos.

It's also possible that the Sci-Fi cut is worse than the Russian cut I saw a year ago. I didn't watch it on TV so I can't compare.

Not tinged in the slightest - the original was silly and campy but a fun movie nonetheless, especially if you took it for the popcorn flick it was - plus it had a good soundtrack.
The series, while it had some stinker episodes (and what series doesn't in a 6 year run) and could be repetitive was also quite fun and some episodes were actually really good.

This movie was just awful. It had horrible pacing, a nonsensical plot even by highlander standards(at least in the 1st one you could understand why they were killing each other), the worst villain yet, the ending was beyond lame (the resolution was something like 2 minutes) and to top it off the "princes of the universe (amazingly sung in the first movie by Queen of course) sounded like some terrible remake.

So no rose colored glasses, I just didn't think this one had any redeeming qualities.
