New "manga" for you folks to check out

Like Record of the Lodoss Wars? Heck, like anime and fantasy? Then check out Ragnarok.

I put manga in quotation marks because, in the strictest sense of fanboy definition, it's not manga... it's a korean comic. The difference, however, is all but non-existant... the art is pure anime style, and very good. Tokyopop is releasing it with their current batch of manga (Chobits, Love Hina, Marmalade Boy, Priest (another korean one), Dragon Knights, and a number of others), and you should be able to find it in any major bookstore in the manga section.

If you ever wondered what would happen if the 3E artists did their rendition of norse ledgends, you kinda have a start here. It's very cool, I'll leave it at that.

The first three (at least) volumes are out now... I picked them up today in the city, along with a bunch of the other aformentioned manga, and a couple D20 books :)

hey Tsyr!

so what kind of prices are we looking at? are they 'volumes' like a normal comic (22 pages or thereabouts) or trade paperbacks?

shoppers-on-a-budget need to know! :D

(i don't even want to look at them now if i know i can't afford to buy them. 'cause if they're as good as you recommend, and i have my credit card on me...:( )

Trade paperbacks... Uhh... they don't seem to have page numbers, on closer examination, but they are more or less "normal trade paperback manga size"... that is to say, somewhere between a 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch thick. 9.99 per, which is a lot cheaper than manga normaly sells for (15+ per)... all of the recent Tokyopop releases are really cheap for some reason.

Ok, here you go:

Looks like the average page count is around 200 pages. Also has some pictures of the covers and brief intros and stuff.

thanks for the info and the link, Tsyr!

(i've been out of comic buying for years. $10 doesn't seem too bad for almost 200 pages of content)

It's a "little thing", but I really like how they have a fantasy author doing the english dialog... I know it doesn't mean it will be any better, really, than if anyone else did it... but it's still a nice touch.
