Strange that there isn't a thread on this yet, so here we go.
The band posted 6 (in words: six) songs from the new album on their homepage: http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=601197
That's quite a departure from their previous web strategy, i.e. suing the pants off everyone who dared posting or even talking about their music (I'm referring to that infamous listening session incident a short while ago).
As to the music: It is actually quite good (!). Drums still sound bad, but the solos are back and the songs are quite varied (unlike St. Anger). But listen for yourself.
