New name for "gish"? (forked from Character Concepts: Gish and Teleporter Mage)

HEAR, HEAR!!!! Ban them both!!!

Agreed. As far as gish goes, I'm not sure I see the need. I mean, it isn't that much extra effort to say Figher Magic User, or type F/MU. Did this spread from online and not wanting to type the longer phrase, or did one person say it once at a gaming table and it caught on through the collective unconsciousness?

A paladin/sorcerer is gishy, but would you call it a fighter/mage?
So its a Gith Paladin/Sorceror then? Yes?

Glad we're on the same page...

Oh god, yes. I hate the word "toon" 100 times as much as "gish". It's horrible enough when used to describe an MMO character . . . it would be unforgiveable as a descriptor for a real RPG character.
So I can use toon to describe my 4e characters then? Yes?

Glad we're on the same page...

This. "Toon" is very, very bad. Very bad. I rather have Gish has a persistent word sticking around forever than having toon any longer.

Cheers, LT.

Possibly a Idiot.
"Fighter/magic-user" is just way to clunky.

And I am against using any real world names, but words like "spellblade" aren't very imaginative.

I don't like the term "Gish" as a general term for a build. It causes confusion. This is what I first thought people were talking about when they used the term "Gish":
