So one of the big changes in MMM is that they were going to truly alphabetize the monsters. Balor is now under B, not D for Demon. What a great idea! I thought.

And then they don't really actually do that- dinosaurs are still all under D, for instance.

Why?? If you're gonna do it- and I agree, it's a great idea that is well past time- then do it, not halfway, but completely. Put Blue Dragon under B and Hadrosaurus under H.

Am I the only one who finds this half-step forward kind of maddening?

Yes, re: half measures. That said, I do not like the idea of just using purely alphabetical organization. I prefer categories. At the very least, if they do alphabetical, they should do “dragon, blue” and “giant, cloud” so the dragons and giants are all still together. Also “crab, giant” so it is next to the regular crab.

I actually kind of like flipping to a section in the book to a monster, and seeing related monsters right next to them.

Though I will admit such a feature is better handled digitally.

Well, I like the old way, so I don't consider it a step forward.

My favourite would be to have chapters dedicated to monsters types, like "dragons and dragonkin" or "undead". I don't care for alphabetic order, if I really didn't remember what type a monster is, there would be the index at the end of the book.

No sir, don't like it. I like having all demons (for example) in one place.

This all just seems like a lot of unnecessary flipping of pages to get to what you want. They should just skip all that and order monsters from best to worst.

Not only would I prefer all demons collected together, but also undead, fey etc. Like the old Atlantean Trilogy Bestiary.
