New Player Needs Help/Advice

The DM might cut you some slack if you give him massages & steak dinners every night before the next session. Then again, your DM is probably a rat bastard who is so obsessed with D&D that even these favors won't phase him a bit unless you're wearing a chainmail bikini during that time.

Disclaimer: I am her DM...and worse, I'm her boyfriend too. The only advice you get from me is that you better warm up that 20-sided & prepare for a fight; I hear your fellow party members are planning to take their reward by selling you into the Bloodwar.

So, what this implies is that not only to the other characters know who she gave the sword to, but they know she didn't get a reward for it (other than membership into the faction).

Did the PC that accompanied the sorceress to the meeting hear every single detail of the conversation? If not, then you could always say that the reward will be delivered later, buying you some time. Or you could say that the 'reward' is a future service from the faction; in a game like PLanescape, where power isn't always measured in hit points and spell slots, this could be seen as a suitable 'reward'.

But, if the witness did hear every little detail, then you've really got nowhere to go. They know who got the sword, they know you got no reward, and they know that a reward ain't coming. Your best bet in this case is to flee, and make a new character.

Edit: Actually, if the other players really are hell-bent on chasing you down for this, contact the Anarchists and tell them you know of a bunch of adventurers with lots of neat equipment that are ripe for an ambush...

Maybe my post didn't come across the way I meant it to. I was joking in an attempt to give Esstillia a hard time. The party is not plotting to sell her into the Bloodwar for revenge. In fact, this party isn't the type of party that would harm each other physically (in game). Esstillia's situation may bring distrust in the group (they already joke around every session about casting detect evil on her to see if she's evil yet) but I don't think they'd go as far as harming each other. She just doesn't want to lose trust among the others.

First things first:

1) How much do the other *players* know? And if they do... how good are they at roleplaying that their PC's *don't* know? It doesn't matter that your PC can keep this a secret from the other PC's, if the other PCs will suddenly start mistrusting you , or just act as if they know anyway...

2) How much does this other PC know? Does he know these guys were the Anarchist faction? (If not, you may be able to blam some other group.) Does he know you handed the sword over willingly and intentionally? (Could always claim you were mentally influenced to hand it over.) Does he know that you were expecting a reward and didn't get one? (Could claim you have a meeting at a later time to get the reward)?

3) Could this PC be bribed, or in any other way influenced to take your side in this? If you have any money, offering him double of what his share in the sword would be worth is a good start. Blackmail might work too.

The other character doesn't know the exact details of the conversation. He may know what faction it was, but I assume he thinks that we will be getting a reward in the future. He doesn't know any detials of what the reward will be. He may or may not know that it was the Anarchist Faction, but he does know that it was a Faction. I assume he thinks that we will be getting a reward in the future. He doesn't know any detials of what the reward will be. I like the idea about the reward being "information", I think I may go with that.

Do people think this is a good idea: I can tell the PC that came with me to deliver the sword that I did recieved a payment but I dont want to share it with the rest of the group, that way i can just pay him off AND he'll go along with the story that i make up. He is a member of T Fated Faction and his character is greedy.

LOL Delemental, good advice man!

Thanks for the advice guys. There is one person who is an enemy of the group. I can tell the group that this person has stolen the reward from me, however I would need at least one witness from the group. I am thinking, would it be a good idea to get someone to dress up as this character or have someone powerful, create an image of this person doing this act of stealing the reward from me? Is there anyone in Sigil who would be able to help me out?

Also, [unfortunately] killing the player who came with me to give the sword to the faction is not an option.

I guess the info if there is anything in Sigil who could help you is up to how generous your DM is with his Knowledge (Planar Factions) skill check opportunities. ;)

But depending on the character who accompanied you, what he heard of the whole deal and your character's contacts with the Anarchists, you could do some of the following:

- try to convince that character that the reward is, at first, non-material, but that you got some information that will prove valuable to the whole group.

- try to buy him off, plain and simple. Offer him enough that his share of the sword is covered, and ask him to keep his mouth shut about who got the sword. If he asks why, tell him you got your reasons that needn't concern him. Tell the others a good story about having been ripped off by a concealed member of another group who wanted that sword.

- contact the Anarchists, ask them for assistance in staging up an ambush on your character to steal some "important papers" that you were given as reward for the sword. The ambusher has to dress up as a member of a rival faction. That way, you can convince your group to attack their rival, which might convince your faction to help you with the scam.

- As the good Doctor put it: "Nice to meet you, Rose Tyler. Now run for your life!" If you don't see any chance for a good way to keep your character in the group, try to get her out of it without getting killed, and preferably in a way that enables her to get back in at a later point, maybe with a good story about why she fled. Ask if you can play another character inbetween and return your sorceress one adventure later, maybe with a good treasure map to buy her some slack from her old teammates.

Oh, and of course the steak dinner and massage hints should be taken seriously. Nothing like a well-fed, relaxed DM to make your game easier. ;)
