Actualy, I'd offer to GM unless there is a big age difference between the DM and the players.
If there is going to be a newbie DM going out on his own, then I would suggest the Quick-Start versions of the White Wolf WOD games. The modern themes are easy for a new person to get their head around and the rules are fairly easy -- they even use d6s instead of WW's usual d10s. From that point on, I suggest Feng Shui, though the size of the book may scare some of them off. (The first sign you have truly forgetten what it is like to be a newbie is when you look at 190 page book and think there can't be text in there to describe a "real" game.)
