New Runes question

Breakstone

First Post
For a Quickling Faen Runethane that concentrated on moving fast and silently, I was planning on creating an applied rune that adds +10 feet to his ground speed.

Now a Wolf Totem Warrior could get this at 1st level, and it's a ceremonial feat as well- would you agree that this would be a lesser rune?

I think it should be the next step up from lesser, the particular vocab escapes me. See, the Wolf Totem Warrior and the Giant are supposed to be special, and the Fleet of Foot feat is supposed to be taken if you're something else and you want speed. So I think a rune that grants speed would dilute the importance of those abilities at low level. Not to mention the total +40 you could get as a Giant Wolf Totem/Runethane with fleet of foot.

You might add a small bonus to a skill check or something if you think the power would be too small for an increased rune level.

Ah, good point.

How about a +5 speed bonus then?

And what would you guess the duration for this speed bonus to be? One hour per level? One minute per level?

I don't see much wrong with it as a lesser rune if the duration were something in the lines of 1 round per level or possibly a locked in 1 minute.

I agree with Dinkeldog. I'd probably make it lesser rune with a minute per level duration for +10 feet of ground movement. Runethanes don't get a lot of rune choices and a lot of runes per day at lower levels anyway, so your player will enjoy being able to move a little better.

Just to clarify something:

the Fleet of Foot feat is supposed to be taken if you're something else and you want speed

Fleet of Foot feat is actually a ceremonial feat. It allows anyone to take an extra 10 feet of movement. As long as they opt for the feat and go through the ceremony. It happens to stack nicely with Litorian racial level 2 or Wolf Totem warrior to get you extra movement, but any PC can take the feat. (I have a Litorian Litorian Hawk Totem Warrior in my game who took this feat. He's 3rd level with 50 feet of movement and loves it.) The design concept is that movement in the system is more dependant upon player choices than class choices.
