I just wanted to let you guys know that I have really been enjoying this thread. I've been kind of following the SL stuff since CCI, and always found it to be interesting reading. The more I've read (and the more I follow your musings), the more I want to try running a campaign there.

Well if you need help, I and my "assistant" will be here to help. ;)

Thanks. :)

SLCS: Ghelspad and Calastia (Christmas presents) are wending their way to me right now, which should kick off a pretty serious SL reading spree.

I'm looking forward to using the SLCS to get a general sense for some of the major regions in Ghelspad, shich should help me narrow down what I want to work on.

I'll definitely keep your offer in mind.

a question for the SL sages???

Is there any place in the SL which would feature gladiator type combats or have that as a part of its society/feature? I was inspired to run something with gladiators in it after reading the article in dragon 303 and I was wondering which area would be best for implimenting it.

Any ideas from anybody??? Pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeee??

arean sport

I would try either Calista or Dunahnae. As both of these countries are run by evil goverments I would not think you would be out of line to set your game or any game involving mortal combat in one of those locals

So far my compatriots have listed probably the best ones for gladitatoral combat. Btw I have this issue and I will say, that their idea of "honorable" combat mixing with the Scarred Lands, you're better off with Dunahnae and Calastia. While Calastia offers more of a Jousting/Knightly combat, I imagine that in Vashon, one certain holidays (divinities day most certainly) there's some Gladitatoral combat. Dunahnae I do believe has an offical gladiatoral combat pit, but it's mostly for slaves and those that have offended the ranking priesthood.

Shelzar's version of gladiator combat is more akin to the movie "Fight club." Few rules and just about anything goes. Also there are rumors of underground gladiator pits in Hedrad and Fangsfall, but again probably more akin to Fight Club.

Interestingly enough there is also a gladiator pit in Glivid Autal. That one is dedicated to Vangal though and is probably the least civilized of the aformentioned lot. Especially since I believe they use a lot of undead that the city isn't using for sport.
