New sorc to D&D here!

First Post
Hello! I just started playing D&D in college. I have little experience with it(As the title of the post shows). I am playing a Sorc. level 6 with 13kGP. We are currently doing a adventure in the RavenLoft world and the group conists of 4 of us. A monk,Rouge and a druid.
I was just wondering what i could do to make myself useful to the group as i expect my inexpereince to be a hinderance. I have been reading the PHB and the DM book and the monster catalog/compedium. I've read most of the stuff about my class and what it can do.
I was just wondering what would be the best skill for fighitng a 9th level vampire guy in a castle full of Banshee's,Zombies,Skeletons and wraiths?
I've got magic missle and i will be getting the metamagic feat Max and the other one i forget...they both seemed critical to have.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

The first level spell Chill Touch is amazingly useful against undead. Also try the 2nd and 3rd level spells Command Undead and Halt Undead.

Hmm 10-4. I'll look into them.
Could you give me any tips or share some expereince of when i should use them to make best use of them?
I have a Wings o Cape on with a Cirlcet of Persuan. Are these good?

Circlet of Persuasion is fun for using social skills, but probably won't help much for mindless undead sorts compared to a Cloak of Charisma. Wings of Flying should give you some helpful mobility.

As to when to use the spells: its hard to say, and it varies based on the DM. A good rule of thumb is to vary how often you cast to match the cleric. Once there is no more healing left, the group will stop, so if you haven't used all your spells yet, the rest are wasted, and this way you don't force everyone to stop for you when they still have healing. Try to save spells for when they will have the best effect without hoarding too much; after all, as a sorcerer you get a whole bunch. Let the party melee fighters handle the fight if it looks easy, and only use your best guns if it is a significant challenge (banshees and wraiths more than skeletons and zombies--unless they are really big skeletons or zombies, of course).

If you're planning to throw a lot of Magic Missiles, you might want to consider Empower Spell instead of Maximize Spell. Each missile does 1d4+1, so...

Maximize: 5 points. Every missile. Takes a 4th-level slot (of which you don't have any!)
Empower: Average of 4.5 points per missile. Takes a 3rd level slot.

Just a thought. Have fun!

Oh, and I agree with Rystil. Command Undead rocks.

I was thinking of getting both empower and maximize, thos were the ones i meant.
Hmmm i also planned on leveling a bit before i could use both.
Also we dont have a cleric..yet. We have a druid with a wand of healing lol.
THe DM doesnt expect this to go more then 5 sessions, so he said to forgo the cleric.
*edit*
Also do you know how much a cloak of cha. costs? I think the circlet adds +2 cha..i could be wrong tho!
Sorry for double post

The circlet doesn't raise Charisma. It only gives you a bonus on Charisma-based Skill checks, like Bluff and Diplomacy. Cloak of Charisma costs (bonus squared) * 1000 GP, so Cloak of Charisma +4 costs 16,000 GP, for instance.

Oh, and not having a cleric against a castle full of undead is going to be...interesting I suppose. At least the druid has Lesser Restoration to help clean up all the ability damage that is about to happen :)

How about a normal clock for thos who arent good at math ;D
Also is it the +4 is +4 cha? if so then a +2 would be 8k right?
Also there are wraiths and banshees. So magic missle it is for them?
Also how do i increase the damage i do? just get levels? or roll 6's?

Cloak of Charisma +2 = 4,000 GP
Cloak of Charisma +4 = 16,000 GP

To get more missiles from the spell, you need to level up. Right now you get 3, but you will get 4 next level. And you are correct that force effects like magic missile are good choices for incorporeal creatures.
