Foe to Goo

Alteration
Level: 4
Range: Close (25' + 5' per level)
Components: V
Area of Effect: Target creature
Duration: 10 minutes per level
Target: One creature
Saving Throw: Fort. negates

Description: This spell will turn its target creature into a puddle of gooey slime for the duration of the spell. Victims are unable to move or physically act while in this state. Sensory organs continue to work normally though. While in Goo form creatures gain DR10/magic and Fire, Cold, Sonic Resistance 10.
Goo will slowly seep downhill, through cracks in the floor or drains. Any items carried by the target are unaffected by the spell. If the spell duration ends with the victim in a space unable to hold their natural form they will slowly seep out of this space into the closest space capable of holding their natural form over 5 rounds.
If the Goo is placed into a container that will not allow restoration of the natural form the target will remain Goo for the duration of the spell. After this time the Goo will become unstable and create a hole in the ethereal plane and shunt to the closest open space.
If Goo is divided into smaller puddles it will ooze together to reform a large puddle. If restricted from doing this it will behave as though being held in a container above and reform in the closest open space.
A shapeshifter turned to Goo can return to its natural form the next round. It must return to its natural form prior to taking on a new form.

Sensory organs continue to work normally though. While in Goo form creatures gain DR10/magic and Fire, Cold, Sonic Resistance 10. Goo is immune to poison and critical hits. Goo cannot cast spells that use verbal, somatic, material or focus components (This does not rule out spells that may have been prepared using the Silent Spell, Still Spell and Eschew Materials feats.) The victim also loses supernatural abilities while in Goo form. It it has a touch spell ready to use, that spell is discharged harmlessly when the Foe to Goo spell takes effect.

Gaseous Form requires the recipient to be willing. I would think this type of spell be modelled after Flesh to Stone or similar type spells. A Variant called Flesh to Goo.

The likeness to Gaseous Form is that the target remains alive and sensate during the duration of the spell. This is different than Flesh to Stone. For that reason the limitations of what a person can do have been modeled for what a person can do in Goo form.

Hm. So if the target fails their Fort save, pretty much you just win the fight. I mean, it could take out an Ancient dragon if he rolled a 1 on his save, for example. I'd have to think about it a bit more before deciding if I like it (although the concept is pretty cool)

I have posted this to the Wizards forums as well. Someone mentioned this similar idea, Em. They suggested a 10HD limit on the target creature.

This is what the spell has evolved into on the Wizard's forum:

make it dismissable by the caster (put a D after the duration)

that way if a caster wanted... for some circumstance to cast it on himself or an ally it wouldn't be that troublesome to return to your original form

of course that doesnt jive with the 10HD restriction at some point, but that was in there before that comment
